New hard drive ,best way to transfer files to it?

ok have just about to buy a new 40gb HD to replace my aging 6gb + 4gb drives.
im going to partition new drive into 2 or 3 sections.
wats the easiest way to transfer my files over from the old drives?

old drives are set up as follows atm
6gb drive
c:\1.5gb - win98+apps
d:\4.5gb - games (full)

4gb drive
e:\4.0gb - games2(full)

maybe sounds a bit dumb http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif but it seems to be rather confusing to me as to how i get everything transfered?

any help would b great

Hook it up as secondary slave and copy everything you need =) If you only have one ide cable then take the primary slave out and copy everything from pri master (first you need to copy everything you need from the primary slave to the master).

Your going to have problems with your gamesin D: and E: though. Their installs and registry entries would look for them in their old drive locations.

Also keep in mind that simply copying Win98 to the new disk using Windows Explorer will not make the OS bootable... You need to copy the Win98 MBR, something that Windows Explorer cannot do since the MBR is not visible to copy, it's located on one of the rings... thnx all - went nice and smooth http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif except trying to get my old drive on same ide cable as the cd rom,but sorted it eventually.

norton ghost will definitely do the trick. you will still end up with 3 partitions and everything to keep your registry setting correct and all. there are a few other shareware ones out there too, but there names escape me. might want to check something like www.shareware.com (http://www.shareware.com) under the disc utilities section.

if you can, make a full backup of your current config first. never can be too safe.
