Has anyone re-inked (refilled) the new Epson printer cartridges with the chip? Will the printer recognize the cartridge as full? My past experience with Epson printers is that when one of the cartridges is empty, the printer will not function.

I don't think this is the right forum for this but Epson cartridges are very difficult to refill properly, go here (http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/direct.html) for excellent instructions.

I'd be cautious. I have a refill kit from Computer Friends Inc. Their inks are supposedly custom formulated for each manufacturer's printer. Generally things have been fine, with one exception. I've noticed the printer monitor software does not really measure the amount of ink in the cartridge. It just keeps track of useage and estimates remaining ink levels. If you underfill, the software tells you the cartridge is full when it may not be and you'll run dry before the monitor knows it. Trying to "prime" Epson print heads that have run dry is a challenge.
This is apart from the hassle of the refilling process itself, as well as the negative impact on the relationship with your significant other who takes a dim view of ink stains on clothes/counter tops/walls, etc.
Although refill kits properly used are a good value, the one I'm using now is the last I will ever purchase.

I have heard horror stories about refills for Epson printers. My friend tried one that was professionaly done and now when he tries to print with the color, it is all streaky. After about 10 cleaning cycles and inserting a new cartidge, not refill, same issue. Black works fine. When he complained they basically said too bad. Also refilling the cartridge does not replace the print head which will be at the end of its life.

Thanks to all who responded. I am painfully aware of the problems with refilling Epson cartridges. I will continue researching for viable and economical alternatives to the Epson chipped cartridges. I am closing this topic, as this is the wrong forum for this topic. Thanks again to all.
