I built a system for someone and used 2 hd. When the system boots the bios sees the hd and lists it correctly make and size, but when I go to the control panel it only shows 1 hd. Another problem i'm having is while the computer is on periodically the floppy drives acts like something is trying to access it, which i am not. What could cause this? If someone was trying to access my system would this cause it? Please someone give me an answer. Thanks in advance for all suggestions or solutions. LadyJ http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

in your bios do you see 2 hard drives or one??? if you only see one chances are you have both set to master if they are on the same ide cable. or, if you have then on seperate cables you might not have the secondary ide enabled in bios. one has to be master(preferably your C: drive) and the other set to slave in order for the bios to properly see it. there should be(in most cases) jumpers on the drive for that configuration.

as far as the floppy goes, when is it being accessed and what do you have running in the backround?? (do a ctrl/alt/delete to take a look. post back with some more info when you can. good luck

Did you partition(fdisk), and format the 2nd hard drive? The bios will recognize any properly connected hard drive, whether it's formatted or not, but to use the drive, or have Windows recognize it, it has to first be partitioned and formatted.

Try these threads for the floppy problem

Yes the bios recognizes the drive. When the computer boots and lists the drives it lists all the drives 2 hd and the cd. It even lists the name of the drive (fujitsu). I used a drive that had already been formatted. When I setup the bios I chose auto detection for the drives.

Which OS are you using?

Are there any red X's or yellow exclamation points in Device Manager under "Disk Drives" or "Hard Disk Controllers"?
