Transferring hard drive data

I have bought a new hard drive.

How do I transfer all the data (including Windows etc.) from one to the other?

If this was a retail drive. Most of them have a ulitity on the disk that comes with them to do this. Look in the manual that came with it and see what it has to say.
If it is not go to the website of the mfg and see if you can find one there.
If you have installed it already. You could try it in dos also. I think the command is xcopy. But I don't remember if this would move a mbr though. Not sure on that one.

The easiest method is to use the setup disk that is usually included with "retail" hard drives. Western Digital and Maxtor include a floppy disk that partitions and formats your new hard drive. You can also choose the option to copy the contents of your old hard drive to the new one. Norton Ghost will also make an exact copy of an existing hard drive.

EZ-Install, which is part of Western Digital's Data Lifegaurd Tools, can be downloaded from the WD website. (http://www.westerndigital.com/service/ftp/drives.html) Download EZ-Maker.exe to create an EZ-Install hard drive installation diskette that will partition, format, and copy the contents of your existing hard drive to your new one.

Get norton ghost, image the old drive and inject it to the new drive.
