I have a Gigabyte GA-7VM motherboard with a Maxtor DiamondMax 4320 UDMA/33 hard drive, running Windows 2000. For some reason, I am stuck in PIO mode and cannot get W2K to stick with UDMA mode when I try to switch it. I've tried the following things:
1. Different IDE cable (I was using an 80 ping Ultra ATA/66 cable, which is recommended by Maxtor). I am now using a normal 40 pin cable.
2. Installed the latest via 4 in 1 drivers (4.31 I believe).
3. Checked BIOS settings for anything out of the ordinary. I did not notice anything. My IDE controllers are set to AUTO detect settings.
I have to re build my PC every few months, because I use an eval copy of W2K. What's weird is that on all previous installations, I have had no problems with this.
Has anyone ran into this problem, and could maybe offer a solution?
