Okay, we all know this is the best forum of it's kind on the 'net. I spoke to Scott a few weeks ago about a feature that I would like to see. Let's all give a (friendly) nudge, please. I would like to be able to subscribe to a post that I did not originate.

Secondly, (and this is a new request), I would like to see a spell checker. On occasion, I actualy paste a copy of my post in Word just to check it, so I don't sound stupid. ANybody else do this?

Actually we've already had those options not too long ago. I don't remember why we didn't keep the subscribe thingy but I can tell ya the spell checker was a real headache. Buggy, would crash my browser half the time, and would stall the posting process the other half the time. Just type your stuff in your word processor and cut 'n' paste if you want to spell check.

I hate to admit it but, I use AOL, no I don't log on, but I open it and cut and paste then cut and paste. I have, I might add become the queen of cut and paste,,,

I use the Websters dictionary I have installed to look up the words im not sure about. Its very easy to check spelling with it. The spell checker was slow and tedious. It would be nice if the reply box had a spell checker like Word has built into it. Underline any words spelled wrong and offer suggested corrections while your typing.

I think a couple of nmisspelled words here and there show our "Human" side and you can always blame it on the keybd, browser or the net!!! As long as you say what you mean, that's all that matters, rite(right) ????? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks all for the info, and yes Pickel in my opinion a few misspellings now and again are okay. When I'm trying to make a point on an issue I am strongly opinionalted about, I like for it to be correct.

Steve, that Netmind deal is an app. that runs in the background, right? I always try to avoid having too many things open.

Just my opinion, but I never used the spell checker when we had it anyway. Seldom use one in word processing, for that matter. Only for long documents. I keep an old-fashioned dictionary right here for anything I'm unsure of. I find that after looking it up once, I'll remember the proper spelling next time.

Most of our posts here are short, and proofreading finds the errors quicker than using a checker anyway.

Scorpio, Mind-it is a web service that monitors web pages and notifies users via email when that page changes, absolutely noting is installed on your system. Mind-it is the same service that SysOpt used to use when members wanted to subscribe to a thread that they didn't start.

Read your message before you post! Why use a spell checker for simple mistakes you should catch yourself?

Well ,I for one like the spell check idea,my spelling stinks most of the time. Actually I struggle with cut/paste routine, (still learning how to turn this stupid machine on right),so I sit here with a real Webester's ,believe it or not. The subscribe idea sounds interesting.

Personally, on my 56k, in the amount of time it took to load, check and finally update my post with the spell checker, I could have easily loaded Word and finished. Fast computer, slow connection http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The old spell checker service went south and eventually became more trouble than it was worth. Scott has already stated that he would be open to adding the feature back to the forums if someone can locate another spell checking service that's acceptable.

So those of you that want the spell checker back need to get busy. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
