Ok I have now been to most review site, forum and OC'ing sites.
I'm gettin all kind of information regarding Duron's, AV7 and Unlocking. Some of the stuff said does not match each other!

1) If u have the "extra" 6 dip-switches on ur AV7 mobo - do u then need to unlock the Duron? - Some people say that the AV7 will bypass the lock if it has the 6 switches!

2) If the above is true what does the other switches be set at: jumpermode I guess, disable cpu fidd...

I just don't get it - if it bypass the lock, why would anyone unlock the cpu if u dont have the switches....and if u do have the switches why would u unlock it!!!!

Please enlighten me m8's http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Szech is not totaly right

the first Duron chips where unlocked they are very hard to find now.

all duron and t-birds being made now are locked chips and have there traces cut. To over clock them you need to repair the cut traces.

the first versions of the asus A7V the 1.0 did not have the dip switchs and the version with the built on audeo did not have them.

the new versions of the A7V the 1.1 and higher all have the dip switchs.

Thx m8's!

I had it figured out just read a couple of times that the 6 dip-switches would by-pass the lock, and this got me a bit confused http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

these duron are more difficult to overclock then you think. because you can't up the FBS any more above 100mhz and you can only up the multiplier which is what they have locked out and you going have to be some kind of soldering expert to change multiplier and voltage as well. a pain it just make it not so friendly at overclocking, not like celeron at all. but oh well, cheap cpu again and overclocking wasnt one of the thing they were aiming at.

The early durons weren't multiplier locked (I think they still aren't, but I'm not sure). The early Asus AV7's had dip switches to set the multiplier. If you had these both, you could set the multiplier by simply flipping those switches. The new AV7's don't have these dip switches, but you can put them in with some soldering. Otherwise, they read the multiplier off the CPU, and that's that. Esta Claro?

Hhhmmm Win_98´- ur right about they locked the multiplier, but u don't need to be a soldering xpert to unlock the *******. Just connect those 4 L1 bridges with a fine pencil - and voilaa it's unlocked http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Hmmm just have a heat and power problem, so I'm only able to run it 650@750...

Thomaz....heat and power problems? i just ordered my A7V and Duron 650.What kind of heatsink are you using and how big is your PS? I am not going to overclock right away but in the near future i am sure i will.

Yep I think I have a heat and power problem.
I use a Golden Orb, and that is NOT very good - about 54 degrees celcious only oc'ed 100mhz... Get another one or at least the new Crome Orb... I only have a 250watt/18amp psu - but will soon order a new case over at: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/ they got some nice looking higend cases....good luck with ur new system http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Win 98:

They are easier to overclock than you think. You CAN up the FSB to about 112, and that is the max that is stable, because of the VIA Chipset, not the CPU. You don't need to do any soldering to unlock it (although if you get week 23 or before, it is already unlocked), all ya need to do is to get a conductive pen, or even just a pencil, and connect the L1 Bridges, because all they did to unlock it was cut the L1 Bridges, so all ya gotta do is connect em again http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Then, all ya gotta do to change the Mult, is to change the dip switches on the Motherboard http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Voltage is changeable just from the motherboard..... Ya don't need to modify the chip at all to change the Voltage settings.

Overclocking wasn't what any CPU manufacturer are aiming at, it just so happens that the celerons are all good at overclocking, just the way they are made. Ya think that Intel purposely made it so the Celeron overclocks well? That would mean a decrease in business for them for their higher end Celeron line.............
