Just tried registering on a BBS here: http://www.rccaraction.com/zone/index.asp
And this is the reply I got.

Sorry, you have attempted to register with an email address or domain that has been banned. Your particular email address may not be banned; it’s usually the entire domain (e.g. Hotmail.com, Yahoo.com, freemail.com, etc.). We have concerns about keeping fraudulent users out of the buy/sell/trade area of the board, and in limiting the number of problem users, who almost exclusively use untraceable free email accounts.
We’re sorry for the inconvenience, but these restrictions have greatly improved the quality of information on our BB. We regularly scan the new registrations to weed out any new free email domains, so it’s not advisable to try and find one that will work. Please register with an email address from your ISP. You may choose an option during registration that will conceal your email address from other users if you wish.
Anyone new members found to have registered with any free email service that is not already blocked will have lose their posting privileges. [/quote].
I even tried with my ISP email and still got rejected. So I guess what they're saying is that if you you use a free email service, then you are a crook. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Well, if you really want to register, sign up for a softhome account at www.softhome.net (http://www.softhome.net) . I have an account from them for quite a while and it works pretty well (hardly ever use it though, I have my cool madgamerz.net addy http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif ). It's not very known, so that website probably has no problems with it.

Well they are not saying that YOU are a crook...They clearly stated that many if not most of the "crooks/trolls/a$$wipes" that visit/trade on their websites use those types of email addys to help them pull off their stealing. The owner of that website has choosen to limit it's membership to what they feel will be more easily trackable/prosecutable people as they will have a email header that will provide more help in tracking down those type of people if something bad goes down at their forum. Personally if you really know how to hide that isnt going to help.

Perhaps they are limiting a portion of scammers but they are also severely limiting membership to the site.

I can see both sides of this one. Certainly, any site can limit registration as they choose.
But what about users who have NO paid "email address or domain"??
I know there are fewer these days, but there ARE still some free ISP's, right?
For years I used Freewwweb exclusively, until they folded. Then tried Netzero for a while. I know a lot of folks that did that.
Sites should make provisions for those users by offering an alternative means of identification & registration.

Sorry but get a grip.
Just give them your email address.
Sheesh! All this cloak and dagger paranoid stuff.
If you don't have any thing to hide don''t!
OOPs sorry I missed that part about your trying your real email...
Your ISP isn't blue light dot com is it? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
maybe i should get a phone number to ring to another number, and have it ring at a friends house. hmmm better get caller id blocking inbound and outbound...too http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
What does a site do then? We want security but don't want to hassle with steps to get it.

Get a Mail.com account and forward it to your main mail account.

Yes, I logged on to Anandtech BBS once and found that I had been banned once. It was when they made a move to ban all Yahoo addresses after a problem with a troll. There are plenty of free emails that are not well-known enough to get you through.

I understand that they are not calling me a crook, I was just frustrated, cause I tried three different emails. Just because Juno is my ISP(I pay)They won't let me register. I have never encountered something like that before. I still don't understand why they would do that. I mean, what's to stop a troll from getting a Pay email domain, and going about his evil ways. Oh well, no big loss , just had to get it out. I'm over it, Life goes on http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Ah who needs RCCA anyway. RCMT has a pretty good forum if you're into trucks, and there's also MaxxTraxx and HPI's forum as well as countless others. For the most part I just use rec.models.rc.land and occasionally RCMT.
