I was playing around with a bunch of programs and codecs that turn a DVD into a file small enough to fit on a CDR with great quality! The only drawback is that encoding in MPEG-4 takes TONS of cpu horsepower, I have a classic Athlon 750 and it took me 9 hours to encode Gladiator. It only takes about a Pentium II to play them though. MPEG-4 is also known as Divx, I don't know why. Full length films in great quality (about VHS) in 650 megs, DIVX rocks!

But Divx doesn't work on DVD players. Panasonic's MPEG-1 encoder produces quality nearly as high as Divx (though still bigger, 60 minutes high quality video on 1 cd) and works on DVD players. I'd say give it a try. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
