Successfully defended my thesis today, and now I can add Dr. in front of my name. Now I just have get my corrected thesis to graduate school by next friday to complete all the formalities.

I am the most relieved person today!! Looking forward to starting a post doctorate in Biochemistry, which will be quite a new field for me.

Patting myself on the back... job well done!

Thanks! I have been distracted for past few weeks cause' of this thesis, now off to celebrate with wife. She has been very very patient (my parents too) past few months, in fact, with my schedule.

Besides, I can get to more important stuff that I have been putting off, like overclocking that sucker Duron got it stable upto 1GHZ now lets see how much further I can take it.

Thanks once again everyone!

Dave, I will be working in academics for a while as a post-doc. My specific project for next two years would to characterize genes involved in effect of Vitamin A on development of nervous system in vertebrates. Initially, I will use Chicken embryos to learn more about these genes. I like teaching and would like to find my place in some university down the line. However, industry pays very well, much better than academic positions. I have not decided yet.

MTAtech, my Ph.D. project was on population genetics of Asian wild water buffaloes found in India. By basic training, I am a Genetic conservationist with a very broad training in biology and statistics. This is why I said in my first post that my Post-Doc position will be quite a new field for me. I have the theoritical background but, very limited lab or bench experience. Never the less, I am looking forward to this new project. My only regret is that, I will not be able to take any time off after I finish my current thesis requirements and starting the new position. I am going to miss the students life! true it never paid enough, but was enough to pay the bills and the freedom to pick your own schedule from day to day.

Off well! everyones gotta grow up some time. Wife and I are planning to have a child next year, then the student life would not have paid the bills, time to move on...

Cool! I work in an Endocrinoloy lab studying gene expression and what makes it tick. I am just a tech though and am actually moving towards doing as much computer work in my dept as science, which is fine by me. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The rest of our dept does heart development with chick embryos. Cool stuff! Best of luck.

Congratulations!!!

Thats quite the accomplishment, you deserve that 'PAT' on your back.

Thanks, Bovon and BBA.

Dave, I think everyday, more of molecular biology is using computers/technology to get more work done in less time. So, what kinda computer work are you doing in your department? I am interested in learning more regarding this relatively new field of "Gene Chips" I still think that old fashion wet bench work is essential for every biological scientist to really understand organisms and their workings.
