I just got my 800MHz bird and alpha heat sink and thermal paste. There is 4 rubber things at the four corners of the cpu, what do I do with them? the middle of the chip is raised so there wont be any contact to the other 90% of the chip, is this where the thermal paste comes in, but then again, that would be alot and i know it's supposed to be thin. So to anyone that knows or has installed the bird please help. I want to get this up and running asap. thanks in advance.

The only part of the CPU that gets hot is the Core, which is the raised part of the CPU. That is the only place you are supposed to place thermal goop on, because it is the only part that touches the CPU. The little black spacers are to make sure that the Heatsink is perfectly leve on the Chip. DO NOT REMOVE THOSE! But, MAKE SURE that there aren't any opn the Heatsink also, because if they are both on, that means no contact, and that is really bad.

Apply the thermal paste REALLY thin, it is only there to fill any micro gaps, not to make a big mess http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks alot, u dont realise how much that helped. But now I have another problem. The chip falls into the holes perfectly, but the arm doesn't want to close. How much force do I apply? Did I do something wrong?
