Penance does not save you - grace does. And we here at SysOpt extend that grace - grace that none of you deserve. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

However, we do hope you'll click the banner ads - not out of guilt - but because of your love for the site.

OH Forum wise ones, forgive me for I have sinned.

I have turned off my computer without going to the "(Start)" button to shut down FIRST.

I have left good RAM on the bench, not filling all available slots.

I have gone over a month without dumping temp Internet files, defragging or running scandisc.

I have good computers sitting idle, not using them to their fullest.

I have left program CD's lying around, exposing them to scratches.

I have not cleaned my new monitor.

I have desecrated my HP Pavillion by using it for ottoman since it's untimely demise.

I haven't finished up the photo enlargements given to me in,, November.

I have not installed my Creative Security Camera.

My sins of omission are wide and many,
my sins of commission are excessive and consumptive.

For these and many not yet named, I impose a moratorium on purchasing any new hardware or software until I find and burn my Windows 95 CD.

I will remove each and every case wiping spider webs and dislodging all dust mites from the heat sinks and sockets using compressed air.
While in commission of this punishment, I shall wear lung protection to keep the dust mite spore out of my body. The one know as Histoplasmosis..

I will pressure wash my IBM keyboard to remove the Coke that spilled upon it's poor self.

I will uncoil the mass of wiring mounded up next to the fireplace, that looks much like grey spaghetti.

I will stop using my Compaq with Windows 95 as a doorstop and gut it and use it for a parts washer.

Upon completion of these self imposed punishments I will furter implement a walk through 20 miles of burning sand, in the White Sands Missile range, just to see the tracks of the Honorable Bill Gates Hummer as he vacationed.

I will crawl through a hundred yards of broken glass just to smell the discarded packing of new Dell computer boxes.

I will drink two liters of runoff from the Athlon CPU factory in Texas,, where the most Honorable of processors are born.

I further impose three hours of standing in my neighbors garbage, because this is the best vantage point to their bathroom. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

fear not, for your post has not consecrated the purpose of the confessional. actually, if you'd look at the original post that i started this thread with, you'll notice that it is a similar issue to yours. i don't think that you posted with any intent of messing up anything, rather coming clean of ill will towards another unnamed (and may i also point out, un-alluded to in any specific way so-as-NOT-to constitute a flame) 'family' member ... and letting it go at that. for that effort and honest expression of how you feel, a few banner clicks is more than sufficient. amen!

Oh Forum Wise Ones,

For I have sinned yet again.
I have not completed the mandated tasks as the sentencing imposed.

I have yet to find and burn the Evil OS, Win95.

I have not walked the 20 miles of burning sand of the White Sands Missile Range to see the tracks of the Most Honorable Bill Gates Hummer as he vacationed there.

I continue to desecrate the memory of my faithful HP by continuing to use it as an ottoman.

I have failed miserably in my quest to drink the runoff of the most Honorable CPU factory, known as the AMD Athlon in the Great state of Texas.

I continue to let fine computers sit idle.

I have left RAM on still on the shelf with some slots yet to be filled.

I have ignored pleas for help from some members because of their constant whining, crying and foul language.
This annoys me even though I know it is wrong for me to judge them for their actions.

I have completed one of the tasks deemed to me,
the one of ripping the guts out of the Compaq with the evil OS Win95 and have made it into a parts washer.
It finally has come full circle and is now a USEFUL piece of EQUIPMENT.

Still my sins of omission are wide and many, my sins of commission are excessive and consumptive.

I shall withhold FURTHER self induced punishment until the Old Wise Ones,
"Apostle83
Target
Nathan
Chpbigot
Welsh Wizard
MtSnow
Socal"
and the others whom have expressed a desire to remain nameless, have reached their decision as to the disposition of my fate.

That may be asking too much, DrCorvette http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Whilst I'm here.....

.....forgive me Sysopt, for I have sinned: I contemplated cracking OGR.

Unfortunately, that is not my only sin: I submitted blocks for OGR and it was 2 days until I changed the CLI to crack RC5. I was negligent in my duties and did not do the job correctly, as the CLI reverted to cracking OGR.

For my sins, I shall install the client on my soon-to-be-built-and-clocked celeron 600 Linux server!

Target
07-18-2000, 11:51 PM
DrCorvette,

Your self mandated (though misguided) exclusion from the Ultimate club, and the penance you have already paid, made up for your sins of the past long ago. Trust me my son, your glass house is still in tact.

These sins of omission you speak of aren't as grave as you think they are. Performing deeds as a penance isn't nearly as important as the lessons you have learned, or the fact that you have requested forgiveness. The realization for the error of your ways, and your desire to do better, are all that is necessary in the eyes of the elders.

However, if some form of punishment will allow you to clear your mind, then you are hereby sentenced to use only a 9600 baud modem for any and all internet activity for a total of one week. In addition, you must install and use AOL as your service provider. Any games that you play, must be done using software mode, at 640x480 or less! If at the end of this week, you still feel as though the burden of your past ways has not been lifted from your shoulders, then you are directed to spend 10 hours in a Spice Girls fan club chat room, and actually make others believe that you are interested.

So, go in peace my son, and follow these commandments of computing:

1) Thou shalt have no other hobbies before computing.
2) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven operating system, or any likeness of any thing that is in Microsoft, or that is in Intel, or that is in the partnerships between.
3) Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for we the user community are a jealous user community, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that would lead us astray, and showing mercy unto thousands of them that are like us, and keep our commandments.
4)Thou shalt not take the name of the computer geek in vain: for the computer geek will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
5) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Send no spam, chain letters, nor visit any porn sites.
6) Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work, upgrades, and modifications: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the geek: in it thou shalt not do any work, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy tech buddies, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: The seventh day shall be for actual use of thy computer without interruption.
7) Honor thy hardware and thy software: that thy days may be long upon the land which the
geek giveth thee.
8) Thou shalt not kill. Unless thy have a reasonable chance of obtaining a stable over-clock, and the death is purely coincidental to thy attempts to achieve more speed.
9) Thou shalt not commit adultery. Especially if thy betroved was introduced via an internet chat room, or other on-line means. Remember, some "Terry's" have sideburns, some don't!
10) Thou shall not steal or participate in fraudulent trading. Napster use will be forgiven though.
11) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy fellow Sysopt geeks.
12) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's hardware, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's software, nor his high speed internet connection, nor his spare parts, nor his over-clock speed, nor his price paid, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's, unless of course it is an unlocked engineering sample CPU.

I spoke in error when I supported a new forum for the "community" related discussion items.

I am sorry for my support and encouragement of a New forum.
My letters and on-line comments asking for the new thread holder has me in shame.

The tone which has permeated these Most Holy of Forums is one of indifference, disrespect and some,, hate.

In public places, Respect for others and their beliefs, is the MINIMUM acceptable behavior guidelines.

Whether from lack of maturity or a deliberate intent to inflame, belittle, or perhaps Embellish THEIR position, this has dragged SYSOPT to the lowest point in the last 18 months.

Forgive me Sysopt, for I have sinned. It has been YEARS since my last confession. (Although I pretty much hang everything out to dry in front of everyone, does THAT count?)

I have taken to posting EXTREMELY long posts that no rational human being could POSSIBLY read all the way through.

I've also been verbally smacking some of my fellow Sysopt members around for being obtuse and I feel terrible.(Ok so maybe just uncomfortable)

The thing is Sysopt, the little cross-eyed buggers keep coming back for more, and I'm not sure if I have the strength to resist intellectually PIMP-slapping them some more.

Help me SysOpt, truly I am lost.

Anyhew...I have this undying addiction to HAVING to reply to nearly EVERY single thread in the Community forum! Even if I have no idea about what they are talking about (aka caddmanns "firestone" thread), I STILL reply.

If I get on the nerves of certain members, now would be the time to inform me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

print this out and burn it and you might solve the California energy crisis.....

good grief people -

To sin in this area - you'd have to develop some pretty interesting peripheral devices - and even then the most likely sin you'd be committing is not reporting all of the income you'd be likely to get from the sale of such devices.....

But I digress - okay - so it's into the gutter.....along with the rest of you reading this..... ;-)

Otherwise - I've not sinned - but committed the offense of "complete solutions" - How Dare I undercut the market with free advice like that???!!!

I further impose three hours of standing in my neighbors garbage, because this is the best vantage point to their bathroom.

just kidding

Ah doc Vette,
The all pious Sister Luvthrill here, making it known to you that I have come fourth, (never seem to show place or win http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif)to bestow upon you the wishes of the old wise ones. For your confession of your confession, Our great ones are pleased with the homage you shall pay when you go home tonight, and lite 3 pentiums (a small butane torch should do the job) and say 2 Our Athlons, 2 Dear Durons, and 1 AMD4ME (which is also what I'm thinking of getting for a personalized license CA plate, it's avail now, unless an unsavory sysoptien sees this and steals it to which he shall receive the BSOD forever more.) With such penance ye shall receive favor, and with the old wise ones blessings stumble blindly upon a website soon, post the info from the site upon the great sysopt boards as though it was your own discovery and receive the admiration of Sysoptiens from near and far, and it shall be to your eyes as would be the sounds of the singing of angles to your ears. i have 1 cooling fan that is 5cm diameter

the processor runs at like 50C all the time

i never shut my computer off

when it pissed me off i flip the power switch on the wall off and on, off and on like 10 times

i lost the case to the computer

once i said i hated computers :(

i took a magnet to my old 1GB hard drive because i could not get the partitions to work

twice i slammed the mouse and it broke both times

i punched my 19" monitor, it has a 5mm x 2mm scratch in it

i own a Radeon video card

had to format this hard drive 4 times

i used godmode in Half-Life before

i accidentaly made a virus program that uninstalled MS Office (i was learning how to C script)

i always list my email address as 1@1.com for everything, sorry whoever has that email address :D

forgive me please? :D

I confess that I only joined here for the "hot" community forum action, and have never once posted in the technical forums.

if the only place bobthetroll has posted is the community then he would only have zero post. Post here don't count, only in the tech forums do they count.

::[ confession ] I confess to not have bought wolfenstein yet though it has come out today. This I will remedy as soon as I'm done with work. [ /confess ]

Speed, you sin by typing in all caps. You may obtain penance my friend, by singing "O Lord, how great is thy bandwidth".

I have sinned, by allowing my father, who art in Chicago, to blow $2500 on a Dell laptop with Windows XP. [Hangs head in shame]

I also run my IBM Aptiva with a K6-2 on a 100 watt power supply.

By how may I renew my soul? I must cleanse the evil files!

Nice to see you howste. Hiya Jadison! I still pop in now and then. I'm just having an identity crisis here, since sm8000 took over my old avatar...

Dude! So sorry! Had no idea, 'twas before my time....

Anyway I like the avatar you're using now, FWIW (It's what brought me here). And I'm sorry but I won't have a new avatar for a while.

No problem, sm8000. I had abandoned it here for quite a while. I'm still using variations of it at "another" forum though. Here's my current avatar there...

LOL howste I'm not Jadison. He can be found over at mntsnows site, www.xtremepccentral.com , along with several others. He's an admin there I think.

Glad to see you stop by again. :) I hope it becomes a regular thing if you have the time. I know I don't have as much time to spend here as I used to.

Hehe, another case of identity theft...well almost :p

jad - I was an Editor there from 10/2001 - 12/02. I'm no longer an Editor/mod at his site. Mntsnow, NDC, and Socal are the admins.

Nice to see old faces here :)

I too have committed egregious sin. I bought a compuke (first one, not counting apple lle).

I also have winme on my present two homebuilds-funny though, it is very stable (but only after doing google penance, and incredible amount of tweakimg)

But soon will build n2, barton 2500, with win2k.

Cannot seem to commit to purchasing any os as bloated as XtraProfit, and then having to reregister bi-monthly or more, due to frequent hardware upgrades and aditions...plus would have to pay extra for each copy-which really sux, as I can only seem to multitask with one pc running at any given time.

To buy xp, would need to be able to install it on all of my own personal rigs. Too bad the greed is so great that king bill wouldn't even consider licensing the person, not the particular iteration/combination of hardware.

mEBBE gotta study linux a bit more...

Click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, clickety, click, click, click, click, clickety, click.

TechIMO hasn't been sold out. It's still alive and well under Scott's control. :)

I believe CausticVapor is talking about the mass desertion from SysOpt to TechIMO. :t
