Yup. That's right - sort of.
They won't work if I have the anti skip on.
74 min. works. Are 80 min. slightly darker? When a cd player is in anti skip mode, it spins a lot faster, so I guess it can't read it that well cause it's darker.
Anyone else have troubles? Keep in mind, it can play the 80min CD-R when not in anti skip mode.
Guess I'll go have to buy 74 min if I'm gonna make a music cd.

This is just an idea, so please dont bite my head off if its a load of ****.
One way of providing an anti shock system would be to use multiple beams to read data and provide a buffer to compensate for errors.
Instead of installing lots of laser diodes, the output from one beam is split using some kind of prism.
It stands to reason that if the beam is split then it has less energy in each portion, possibly making it susceptible to less refliective CDR's.
Anybody who actually knows how these things work please enlighten me.
Here ends my flight of fantasy.
It all comes down to the brand of CD-R. You say the 74 minute disks work but the 80 minute disks so not. Are they from the same manufacturer? If not then there's your problem.

Imation was the brand of 74 min CD-Rs. Memorex is the brand of 80 min CD-Rs. I think you're on to something here...thanks http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Eddy, you should present your idea to Panasonic (awesome brand of my player) and be rich! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
