Missing file

Not able to open my d drive from the My Computer window. Message says Win. can not find findapp.exe: .Have searched my drives and the Win CD, but nothing available. Am able to open my C drive but not my D. Can open the d drive from Windows Explorer, not not from the My Computer screen.

Well that is an odd one.

When did this start happening? What OS 95/98/2k?

Are you running findfast and/or Office Startup? They may cause this problem as they index your drives dynamically. If this indexing fails, you may get strange behavior.

There is an easy way to have My Computer open an explorer window, but that hardly solves the root cause.

Thanks qball. I am running W98 and it started when I loaded a zip file from a 3" disc. The file loaded okay, but when I went to check the location on the d drive, I couldn't open it from My Computer.

Have you run a virus check? anyother problems with .exe files?

hi bob,

have you tried right clicking on the drive and opening it from the menu. this might not solve the root of the problem, but it will help.
also, you might want to reload officewhic should, hopefully, fix the indexing error(from the original installation disk). installing programs from a backup device (or - no assumptions made - using copied software) might not always work well, as backups might not have copied all the necessary files to run a program properly.
downloading fixes from the program manufacturer's web site might also help.
