What is ATA opposed to DMA? I know what DMA (Direct Memory Acces) is but what is the other. With so many acronyms, its getting harder and harder to keep up what they mean!!

ATA (AT attachment) is synonymous with IDE. DMA is a protocol used by ATA. Ultra DMA (UDMA) is basically twice as fast as DMA.

ATA/33, DMA/33 and UDMA/33 are all the same
ATA/66, DMA/66 and UDMA/66 are also all the same, arent they? Ive always thought so anyways.

I have used the ALI IDE drive setup program to switch between DMA and Ultra33. On my setup, Ultra33 is much faster.
