the computer that i have right now has an 8x cd rom in it...but i have this other cd rom that is 12x...if i decide to switch them, what will be upgraded? in other words, what are the benifits of going from 8x to 12x cd rom?

You will get higher transfer rates. So video and audio might be better. And you may get lucky and have a multi-read compatible drive that can read CD-RW's.

It's faster by 600kb's that's all.
