I would like to upgrade my 200mhz computer, so I submitted a post and I received a reply saying that my motherboard can only be upgraded to 233mhz. I would like to know if it is possible to simply replace the motherboard in my computer so that I can upgrade to a reasonably fast paced computer? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated> Thank You.

What motherboard is it that you have now? It's within the realm of possibility that it might support a K6-2 400 using the X2 bios trick.
Yes, it would likely be very possible (provided the case is a standard format, AT or ATX) to swap out a new motherboard for the old, but might also require the purchase of new memory and/or other components.
Of course, in your profession http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif cost shouldn't be a problem.

Underclocked --- the motherboard I have now is a P51430TX TITANIUM IB motherboard. I really think that i need a faster computer. I don't know what affects a computer's speed--RAM? etc.. but I will tell you the specs of my computer if you can give me a few pointers.. I would really would appreciate it.

If you install a new motherboard, you will also VERY likely have to reinstall all your software. That is no small thing to the unitiated, especially the drivers..

You are also going to have to be more specific about your objectives here.
"I want to upgrade" leaves a LOT of unanswered questions.

Your motherboard has two dimm slots and four simm slots. Whether you could easily find dimms to fit those slots depends upon the type or retainer arms on the slots. Low ones are for the older, original pc66 memory and are a bit harder to get, the higher clips are more suitable for most sdram dimm. Your best bet is PROBABLY to try the K6-2 400 and set the bios to a 2x multiplier, then upgrade your memory to as much as you can afford. Most boards take only simms OR dimms and not both. Also, whether simms or dimms, motherboards are made with limits as to the maximum size of memory stick per slot.
There is no manual on their website for your board, nearest is the 1B+ and that is a different arrangement. Do you have a manual for the board?
Finally, you could be in a situation which is not very cost effective. Upgrading an older system can be almost/as pricey as buying a new box, especially if you buy from one of the good traders here at SysOpt or on other trading boards.

In my experience, amount of RAM decides speed more than the processor.

I used to use my dads 233mhz P2, 64mb RAM comp. I bought my own, a 400mhz Celeron, 64mb RAM to start. There was hardly any difference except in some intense games. I upgraded my RAM to 192mb. HUGE difference. Games were super smooth and everything loaded much faster.

I strongly agree with Warthog, upgrading to more RAM gives you a bigger bang for your bucks compared to when you are going to upgrade your cpu 100Mhz ~ 200Mhz more than your current CPU speed.

Okay, thanks for the advice but how do you do that.... Upgrade or increase RAM size?

You might also download SiSoft Sandra (download.com or zdnet library) and check the motherboard module. Should tell you how many slots and what's in them.

The Titanium 1b is a QDI board, you could try their site www.qdigrp.com, (http://www.qdigrp.com,) you can see the specs there, and get some bios upgrades (If appropriate).
