To all those who have DSL or a high speed connection.
I was wondering exactly how fast DSL is. I know what the ISP's say but they experience is not always the same as they say.
I use MS netmeeting now and wheni connect it's very slow. the video is "choppy" and the sound is frequently stoping. i was wondering if DSL would really make a difference?
if i get DSL and the person that i connect to with netmeeting or other programs has DSL then will the video be crisp and streaming with no problems?
Also can I still use Internet telephony wih DSL? Im not quite sure?
I know this post might be stupid and uneccessary but it can't hurt.
thanks....

DSL works great for me. Most of the time my bandwith is about 500kbps during busy times. It would go faster, but the electronic superhighway only has so many lanes, lol. Yes, as with anything on the internet, you have to consider the amount of network traffic on other servers. For the most part though, you will like the increased speed. When all the little boys and girls are asleep, I am up and running at over 1.4mbps. ... I hear some people have problems getting booted off or such. What seems to be the problem is the PPPoE protocol used for dynamic IPs. If you decide on getting DSL, ask for a static IP address. Also, shop around for a provider. In my neck of the woods, the baby bell has horrible customer support. Once running, though, you never have to deal with anyone again. Not even an ISP! ... check out these links for more info: http://www.dslreports.com/ http://Cable-DSL.home.att.net/

Streaming video is no problem with ADSL,it will be a great big improvement over dialup. Yes,internet telephony is possible,as is regular POTS (plain old telephone service),as the lower part of the signal also carries your phone line,so you have no need for a second line to be on the net and the phone at the same time.Whatever you do on the net with dialup, you can do with ADSL.
