That's really cool. Does anyone really need all that speed. I mean I am not saying that I don't fall into the speed hype. I have a 900 mhz AMD Athlon, but I don't really need all that speed. Geez, think back a few years. "Wow! Pentium's are coming out! 133 MHZ!!! OMG That is FAST!" Pretty soon, we are going to have super computers in every house. Anyways, it's very cool that they hit the 2ghz mark. I think I will wait for the price to drop to the 200-300 dollar range =)
Probably gonna take a while for price to drop. Hopefully soon, I currently run a Dual Pentium III 733Mhz and it blazes. I'd love to try running a Dual 2Ghz! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I expect we will all need that sort of speed soon when microsoft releases its next OS. Nothing like microsoft to gobble up all the available clock cycles. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
The next windows will be 64bit, and so will the new Intel Itanium CPU.

The CPU is not really the bottleneck in overall system speed; while there have been some strides in main bus architecture - the EV6 bus in particular - there remains a great deal of room for improvement.
Let's not even get started on disk drives - I'm afraid Ultra ATA 100 and even SCSI 160 just don't cut it - these are as ancient as the phonograph -
What I want to see is SOLID STATE "drives" make their way into an affordable consumer market - now that would be something indeed!

Ahhhhhhhh.........don`t forget RAM. Someone mentioned that we would all need super computers for Microsofts new OS.....this is indeed true, and Microsoft will take all the processing power available (as usual)...
But don`t they always like to take as much ram as you have! It`s true, honest.....
I used to have Win98......used about 100mb of ram on bootup. Now I have installed WinME it like`s to take at least 250mb!
Can`t Microsoft make an OS that is actually RAM efficient!
That dickhead Bill even said at one point that 640kk was enough for anybody! Wish I had his email!!
One other thing, if Bill has all that money, why the hell does he cut his own hair!

Could someone please explain to me what a 64 bit CPU and OS is please.
Is it like dos6.22/win 3.1 fat16 and win95/98/nt fat 32???
But havent a clue what a 64bit processor does!
Rob
No, FAT16, Fat32, NTFS are just file system methods that are used for storage devices.
Intel Pentium III's are 32bit Processor which means that they calculate data in 32bit chunks, but as for the new Intel Itanium, it will be handled in 64bit chunks which will be faster. MAC Processors are 128bit processors and calculate in chunks of 128bit.
Win98, NT4, and Win2K are 32 bit operating systems, as for the new Windows that is to be released will be 64bit operating system. As for Win 3.1, DOS 6.22, were 16bit operating system and had to use Win32 to run 32bit applications.

Hey don't want to be a defender of Bill Gates but what Gates was refering to was that 64K (not 640) of system resources was more than enough. This was back in the day when computers only had 4mb of ram and 50 mb of hard drive space. I remember WinMag complaining to microsoft that they wouldn't recommend Windows 95 unless they improved the resources. Microsoft up it to 128K which was enough at the time because it was suppose to the last 9x system being that we were all suppose to switch over to NT systems. Microsoft was forced to release 98 and now ME and have also has decided to work on a replacement for ME. It seems even mighty microsoft can't force people to switch to a better OS.
