Use a hex editor and open user.exe. Remove your hard drive and open msconfig from Run. take the check out of Check for floppies every time windows boots. Make a registry backup and call it, "compac.reg". Enter safe mode and check for check for any future achieologists that want to compare data on past digs for accuracy of data and additional information contributed to comparative location of any and all artifacts found on the site.
Add more RAM and setup a RAM drive for better performance of available RAM.
Just my opinion of course.

Sounds more like a SysOpt.community question to me. Post it here and you'll only get tech answers.

(although I must admit I like Beemers' answer - lol)

You mean I went all the way down to Sysopt Community for nothing?
I even stopped in and posted a reply to a thread while I was there.
When I posted I had to exit the thread and go back in to get the reply to work socalgal.
