Today I went to Best Buy and looked for a scanner to buy. Here's what I narrowed my choices to: Microtek 3700, HP 4300Cse, Canon N1220U, and the Visioneer 8100. It's going to be connected to my computer with a USB port. $250 is the limit and it must be a fast scanner.

Dave, look in Zones.com clearance section. They have some nice deals on the Epson 1200 and 636U scanners. Good stuff. Also, while you are there, pick up a 50 pack of Pacific Digital cdr's for 9.99. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Also, I just went to Visioneer. You can order the 6200 usb model with 42bit resolution (landscape layout) direct from their site for about 90 shipped. I've had EXCELLENT results with their scanners and the Paperport software is the best.

I have used just about all brand scanners and they all seem to freeze or lag for the time an image is being scanned which makes multi-tasking a living hell. ONLY 1 brand I have used have no freezes or lags when scanning. It is a Mustek scanner. I have bought over 4 different models and none of them freeze or lag during scanning which allows me to do other things while an image is being scanned. If you can wait the time an image is being scanned at a high resolution, say at 1440dpi. All major brand scanners seem to produce a good image. But if multi-tasking is your case, go for a Mustek.
