I tried to add additional data to a cd-r that I had not previously filled. The additional information overwrote my stored information. How do you add information to a partially filled cd without overwriting the stored data? Thanks

If you tried to add data and overwrote what was there you probably have a CDRW (re-writable) disc. To add data to a unfilled CDR or CDRW you need to create a new session. I believe the option is on Adaptec's Easy CD Creator. I don't have it here with me but you should be able to find it in the help file if that is the software you are using.

When you burn the disc the first time, don't close the session or the disc. At this point, the disc isn't too usable, but you can still add files to the session if the disc isn't full. Also, go through your options and make sure that "Automatically import previous session" is selected. If you want to be able to use the disc and still add more files, then close the session but don't close the disc. The next time you burn files on, it'll go into a different session, and you'll have to select sessions on the disc to access the different files, but they'll all be there.

Close the *session*,leave the *disk* open. Leaving the session open will constantlly overwrite the last info put on.Closing the disk will seal it shut.

I don't think you actually overwrote anything. are you using My Computer to view your cd? if so, it's probably only looking at the latest session - there's another session that isn't showing up, that's the one you've written before. to see that session, use the program you used to write it. it should be called something on the line of "session viewer."

Another thing with leaving the session open is that you won't be able to view the disk on another computer. To view on another computer you have to close the session.

Right Nero. I used the wrong term, since cd-r is write once medium,I should have said he might have logically erased the previous session.

Just get Adpatec Direct CD. You can use CDR or CDRW just like you use your hard disk. You can add files using windows explorer like you would with your hard drive. After the CDR has been filled to its maximum capacity, it will as you to close the CD session to be accessed like a CDROM for all operating systems. Very simple and convenient to use. But before you can use the CDR with Direct CD, you will have to format it for Direct CD use which takes about a minute. You can also use Packet Writer which has the same functions. It's easy as 1-2-3.
