Athlon vs P 3

OK just want everybody own option as to what they think of then and how much of a deference there is between the two is the AThlon fastter at the same speeds as the Coppermine's or not

The Athlon (tbird) with performance enhancing cache, is faster in most applications than a P3 coppermine of equivelant speed.

Something else to keep in mind.

1Ghz Athlon = approx $500
1Ghz PIII = approx $1100

Performance between the two...you couldn't tell the difference.

I'v had nearly no lock ups or any other problems since I changed over to Athalon.
And They run much better overclocked

i have Athlon T Bird slot A 750 @1102 will run at 1155 but to hot for me on a k7m mobo and i love it been up and running 21 day with out a crash yet using win me

Checkout how they compare to the Tbird when you get them up to 900Mhz...

The two processors are absolutely neck-and-neck when it comes to performance.

One is six hundred dollars cheaper than the other.

Easy decision.

tangluva, I just ordered one of those 1Ghz slot-A Athlons. It'll ship next week. Only question I have is: Is it next week yet???

That's the only drawback of such a good deal. There are so many people buying stuff from them that they're up in their necks in orders, so it's gonna take a while unfortunately. I ordered one of their GFDs since it was $15 shipped on 8/1 and didn't get it until 8/16. You'll get it though. Be patient OuTpaTienT!

hmm what happen to that K7 200mhz bus speed vs PIII 100mhz/133mhz? eh... the athlon is infact more powerful which is pretty noticeable when looking at the benchmark. I think I go duron well when the price of the motherboard come down a little more waiting a little longer thought until the price is right. now the only way PIII or PIV going to be in par is if they use 200mhz bus while keeping the motherboard at 100mhz very confusing as hell I know but they got trick up their sleeve that Intel couldn't figure out. Go Athlon! Go Athlon! Go Athlon! chuckle, chuckle...

The Athlon uses 100MHz BUS speed. Hmm, only 100? Well 100DDR. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif That means that it can transfer data up to the speed that a normal, SDR, bus can do. So in fact the Athlon bus can be referred to as 200MHz, but it isn't always operating at 200MHhz, so 100MHz DDR explains it better. Its basically the same as with the origional GeForces which came in SDR and DDR.

Hay Sweeper have you realy read up on that 1133 p 3 cpu it is a very unstable chip in fact it is reay a 850 100mhz cpu over clocked to 133 fsb and if you look at amd they have a 1.1 gig out to now and it is alot more stable than that intel cpu is
