I went to a trade show yesterday in Louisville, KY (hometown). It was a reasonably-sized one with your usual spread of high-end to utter junk components for sale.
Here's the very interesting part: Almost NO ONE was carrying Intel processors. There were some Celerons floating around but I saw NO Pentium III Cpu's on display, and only a few stores even bothered to list prices.
I talked to the vendors about this, and got this response: All of them were building and shipping 90-95% AMD processors. Intel's, they said, simply were too expensive and too hard to get a hold of.
Is this unique to the Midwest--or is it going on everywhere?
they are not alone up here in Canada i build them for a living we will special order them if that is what the customer wants but we really try to get them to buy AMD as the price is much better than any of the P3 are we keep one of every speed in stock of the P3 but we don't sell to many of them now days in fact we have had most of the P 3 that we do got are from the first shipment of them we got now AMD we get them weekly as we got through them fast in fact we just got a contract to put 500 sys together for Syncrude Canada that will all be running Athlon 650 on the K7M mobo to replace the current ones that are all Intel P2 450 as they are not doing thing fast enough for them

unfortunately for you dputiger, majority of folk still have Intel processor and are proud of it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif it going to take at least another 5 years for thing to tip over to AMD favor. most of them can afford the pricy intel chip and that the funny part they don't mind paying more! it would take a hell of convincing for some to switch over to AMD because they think like this... cheaper is alway worst, expensive is better! this is true right in most cases? dont get me wrong here I prefer AMD over Intel any day hence since the 486 chip till theseday... oh and dont forget folk that have abit motherboard socket370 is most likely to stick with it until the end of time... why pay double price eh for a new motherboard and cpu and just get the new celeron II processor saving them cost and hassle of replacing a new motherboard? again Intel is a richman corporate while AMD is a middleman corp... right? this is why AMD dont charge too much or too little and so in between just so that anyone can afford it well almost unless you aint got even a penny to spare. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif while cyrix corporate is a poorman's business sacrificing alot of performance for low prices hmm unfortunately for them it doesn't attract too many of us middle class people.

I really don't see the difference between the two. I'd get whatever one was cheaper...
