Thanks Dave http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I've been using AdAware as well as OptOut and they both seem to work well.

Thanks Dave. I am installing it after posting this. I have only used OptOut but this seems to be more comprehensive. Thanks!

Does it give you the program name before it fixes it? barry

I have been using this free utility that scans your system for spyware and ad-ware.
Similiar to Steve Gibsons "Opt-Out" program, but this one will detect more than just the Aureate programs.
It currently detects:
Aureate, TimeSink, CometCursor, Cydoor, Web3000, and Gator.
The new release now also finds and removes "nasty" cookies. I got a kick on how it found a doubleclick cookie and labeled it
" http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Bad Cookie!"
You can download it here if you want to try it: http://www.lavasoft.de/

Edit-(Disclamer) Please note that if it detects something on your system and you chose to repair it, chances are that the offending program will no longer work. Please keep that in mind. -edit

Tell you the truth Barry, I'm not sure. I try to stay away from those programs to begin with, so I have never had one get picked up by this utility. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
For the cookies however, it gives the type and location, and it gives you an option to leave it alone by unchecking a box next to it. So I would assume, it would give you the same option to leave alone any spyware or adware programs. Actually, I think that you would want to first uninstall the offending program, then use this utility to clean up the stuff that gets left behind. As an example, the Aureate spyware will still function after the offending program is uninstalled.
Personally, I get more use out of this utility for trouble shooting then it's intended use.
As it scans your system, it gives a detailed list of all the processes running, including those not listed under ctrl\alt\delete, and msconfig. It also shows a full path to the location of the programs, if your trying to figure out what it is for.
