Three futile attempts to make an audio disc. I have a 4x4x8 cd-r and a 800mghz processor. I keep getting buffer underrun after my 1st track is recorded. I have turned off all programs and even reduced from write 4x to 2x down to 1x all with the same error. It writes the first track and then closes the sessions. I am using adaptec easy cd creator. I am using Maxwell cd-r 650.This is my first attempt at burning an audio cd and I am getting more and more confused and frustrated. Thanks for any help.

You can always copy to the hard drive if you have space then burn onto the new CD. Copying on-the-fly can be touch and go if there are HW incompatibilities. What make/speed is your CD/DVD ROM?

My songs are on my hard drive. I get the songs from the files into the cd layout of easy cd creator and start the cd creation. I get one track recorded then the creator goes into the closing session and close out the remaining cd. The exact same thing has happened on three attempts. Records my first song then closes out the cd.

When you get BUFFER UNDERRUNS, the best thing to do is to make an image of the source on to your hard disk and make a copy to the CDR from the image on the hard disk, That usually solves the problem. It is quite possible that your CD-ROM is unable to extract the audio files and send them quick enough to the CDR Drive which causes the Error "buffer underrun".

How much ram do you have in your system
haydeni?? This could be a problem too... if you have 64mb or less some cdrs dont function very well espically usb where it hogs cpu and memory a little more.. :

Also when was the last time you defrag'd your HD? Are you trying to "do other work" while burning?

Mike, I am using Windows 98 and the cd-r is Pacific Digital USB 4x4x8. I have had no problem with data cds

Yeah, MNTSNOW has a good point there, you aren't doing other tasks while you are burning CD's are you???? That would definelty cause buffer underuns on a single processor system.

haydeni,

What software are you running?

haydeni

No, I am not doing other task and my ram is 133. I just don't understand. All programs were closed i.e. virus scan etc. Thanks for the feedback. There must be something else. The computer is only 1 month old. Could the defraging be it?

I've got a couple of questions.
Does the single track that it has written play back okay is it there nothing there?
you say you are burning the music from your HD, is it extracted and converted to wav from cda or have you just dragged and dropped the cda files from cd to hd. Second method won't work.
Have you tried copying straight from cd drive to cd burner?
have you tried different setting such as disk at once or track at once etc.
just a few thoughts

Donkey, yes the first track does play very well on my home stereo. Iam new to this. I know I am trying to record mp3s off my hard drive that are in "my music" file. I get approx. 10 songs into the cd layout of easy creator and click on create cd. It is off and running, the first track is always recorded beautifuly then it closes sessions. No I have not tried the one track or disc at once. Thanks. I have already made 4 coasters

So you are burning mp3s to a cd. And doing the mp3 to wav conversion 'on the fly'. It may be worth converting the MP3s to wav format before burning commences to reduce the amount of stuff being done during the burn process. I think most MP3 players can convert to and from wav format.

heydeni,

I've got the same software. Try this. Put all the converted MP3 to WAV files in a single directory. Realize that this will be a huge directory. Usually I am able to get between 14 and 18 songs on a disc (depending on the length of each song). If you intend to fill a disc with music that will be around 650 mb of data.

Once all the files are in WAV format, go into Easy CD Creator. Go to that directory and get the songs in the order you want. Make sure you do Disc At Once. It is easier on the burner (and I think quicker).

Try the test and create option.

Also, isn't there an option for testing the burner? It should run some diagnostics to make sure that your harddrive is fast enough to transfer data. I think it requires a blank disc, so you'll end up with yet another coaster.

How do I convert from mp3 to wave? Please be patient I am learning on the fly. Thanks to you all

What program do you use to play Mp3 files on your computer? I've used Sonique, Microsoft's new Media Player, Real Player, and WinAmp.

I've found that WinAmp is a little lighter on the system than the others. WinAmp will allow you to Convert a whole directory of MP3's to WAV. It's the easiest program that I've found.

After re-reading from the beginning, are you trying to copy a CD (or take songs off multiple CDs) or use MP3's to create a new disc?

Thank you, thank you.....A round would defintely be on me. The conversion of mp3s to wav did it. I checked out Adaptec and any place I could about underrun. No mention of this conversion of mp3 to wav. They gave all kinds of reasons but not the conversion. Maybe they assumed thay were dealing with more erudite people than me. I don't other understand the physics, but now I know to convert mp3s to wav, and everything will be cool on creating an audio cd. Thanks to everyone esp gyoung and donkey. I am now listening to my burnt cd on my home stereo and I am thrilled!!!!

Well done. Not much doesn't get solved around here. Thank for letting us know that it all works. Means a lot to those who try and help out if we know our ideas did the trick.
Happy listening and i hope you are going to stick around.

cool, you got it to work for you ... I am just curious, what version of EZ-cd did you use? Version 4.02 is supposed to record straight from Mp3 to audio disc format. earlier versions did not have that feature.

haydeni

I was using 4.01. So if I update to 4.02, then I can, as gyoung says convert mp3s to an audio cd on the "fly" without the wave conversion. Adaptec ,as far as I could see never mentioned this solution. I will give it a try, whats another coaster. Go for the Gold. Donkey, being a novice to computers, you will here from me again. I am sure. And then who knows, maybe in the years to come I can help someone out as you did for me. Many thanks again for your patience and responses.
