I would like to build a webpage, and I don't know very much HTML at all. Does anyone have suggestions on a free editor? Would I be better off just coding it in notepad? Are there any good tutorials that I could look at? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Coffeecup html editor is a very easy editor, but I do suggest you learn those codes, cause it will come in need, when you will update or something else.

Coffeecup is more like, you say where you wanna put a picture in the page, and coffeecup adds all the neccessery codes to get it on that place.

I just downloaded 1st Page 2000. It is made by evrsoft and is a 100% free program. You can download it here http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10092-100-1422921.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.td

It is a great program and has four different levels of use. It has a preview page, and your main page shows all of the HTML code but you can still use the program to insert stuff without writing any code. I did pick up a book on HTML so that i could fallow along and add some things here and there. Good Luck!!!!

Is Frontpage 2000 any good?? And what are some other good web-site builders that are free on the Internet??

Here's a link to a tutorial on building a page in notepad...I prefer to do things the hard way to start, and get lazy later... http://www.pagetutor.com/pagetutor/makapage/

Try using Adobe Go Live. It has an HTML editor. Adobe Go Live is WYSIWYG (WhatYouSeeIsWhatYouGet) interface which will make it easy for you to make the layout and later go into the HTML editor for finshing touches. Very easy to use program. Many Web Pros use this program. It is good for most level web designers.

It is well worth the price if you want easy interface and complete control of your final layout.

If you're already familiar with using Notepad for your HTML, you'll love CoffeeCup. Use it all the time myself. It's a not a GUI based editor like Frontpage or Netscape Composer. It's very similiar to Allaire's Homesite. It won't put a ton of **** in the background like all these other "editors" do. It's also good for teaching yourself HTML as well, something the editors don't do well.

The current v8.0 has a 30 day expiration on it. The older v7.0, is a fully functional shareware and never expires. Except for the interface, both versions are practically the same.

The older v7.0 has since been pulled from the company's homesite and all the other major shareware places, but I still have it available in the Files Section of my site (http://home.earthlink.net/~chinmonster) if you want to try it.

I like Frontpage 2000. You can download Frontpage Express free from the Microsoft Site (I think you have to download it with Internet Explorer). It's pretty handy.

Try Editplus. It is a best described as a "super-notepad". It is incredibly configurable and has color coding for all major supported languages. You can also preview HTML & XML inside of the app itself.

I use it everyday for C & C++ programming as well.

To Brian 48. I downloaded Coffee Cup from your page and it looks very good. I have several editors, too many, can't decide which one to use. Coffee Cup looks very good to me. Only one problem. You said that it didn't expire in 30 days, maybe not but it says it does. I would hate to invest 30 days work and then have it belly up. I like it well enough just looking at it that I may buy the upgraded version later. For now can you offer any additional bits of information that will boost my confidence that it will not quit on me in 30 days? Thanks

I guess the word expire is not what I should have used. Yes, the license expires, but the software does not cripple itself.

The 30 day notice is similiar to what Winzip uses. It's simply a nag screen and you're left to your own integrity to deinstall the software after 30 days. Notice how annoyingly long it takes to exit the program? That's done intentionally to coax you into buying the software or get the software free by paying for host server space. The program itself does not turn itself off and require you reinstall it. v8.0 on the other hand, will shut itself off within 30 days and require you to re-download it again.

In any event, your work will never be lost. As you can see, all it does is generate simple HTML and does not require any other external program to edit the file.

To Brian. Thanks a bunch. I am fairly certain that I will buy the updated version later. But first I would like to take it for a spin.
Your page is quite useful. Good show.
