A card and flowers or chocolates are the usual methods. Luckily, with the help of my Palm I remembered this year. Cranberry pepper 03-26-2001, 01:12 AM Luckily I remembered thanks to all the adverts on TV, there must have been alot cos my brother even remembered http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif I think it goes back a few hundred years to when girls from poor families went off to work at the local manor house. They were apparantly allowed a Sunday off to go and see their mums. Graham 03-26-2001, 02:02 AM Pepper is right, the girls 'in service' were often far from home, so they were given one Sunday per year to 'go and see mum', mothering Sunday. "and you tell the kids today....." G Warthog 03-26-2001, 05:08 AM so it's like American "Mother's Day" Warthog Jonty 03-26-2001, 11:36 AM Yes, it is like your Mothers Day. The actual name we call the day is Mothering Sunday, I've never heard it called Mothering Day though. Its commonly called Mothers Day over here, but I still prefer Mothering Sunday. Its quite difficult in fact to buy a card saying Mothering Sunday. Jonty 03-26-2001, 11:39 AM Just a thought here, why do we in the UK call our mothers 'mum' and in the US it is 'mom'? Yet 'dad' is the same?? Graham 03-26-2001, 01:15 PM Cad, You aint seen my mum!! G http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif dafremen 03-26-2001, 01:20 PM Perhaps its because ded and dud just didn't go over too well with English fathers? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif 8) Daffy BFlurie 03-26-2001, 03:14 PM It's where all the Queen mother's loyal subjects gather 'round her for a gigantic group-hug. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif justy 03-26-2001, 05:51 PM Hehe, the least popular guy in the world!!! Guess who forgot mothers day, not for my own mother, Trish deals with that. But for Trish herself. What an ars@hole I am!!! No seriously, I forgot. I didn't realise until about 4pm that afternoon. As jonty says, its quite hard to find a card on sunday, but its much harder to find an excuse to go out on your own and get one! Ooops, much begging and sucking up too, afterwards I was just about forgiven. I'll really make it up to her later, promise. All the best, Justy. welsh wizard 03-26-2001, 11:05 PM why don't we call fathers day fathering day? BTW my Mam and Da is how mummy and daddy were always called http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif also mothers day and fathers day are different down under not the same days as the UK same with Queens birthday last time I was in OZ I was there for Queens birthday, after we had already had a holiday in NZ for QB. WW Warthog 03-27-2001, 12:28 AM hehe good question http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Warthog SysOpt.com
