I live up in an apartment right now for college, but I am thinking about moving back to where my parents live and move into a small house. My question is, what all do you need to have... know.... etc... to setup a t1+ connection.

My parents work at a ISP pretty much, and they can get a t1+ for around $200 a month.. I think, and if I move back I want to get it if it is that price. I want to setup my webpage stuff on my own server and everything. Can someone fill me in on what I need.. any admin's?

I know, I need a router... computer... what else?

Thanks

Ok, here's what little I know:

T1's aren't analog connections like a phone line or a phone line connection like ADSL. They are digital connection lines that link you straight into the phone company.

First of all, having worked briefly at Bell South, I can tell you that a full T1 usually goes for $1000-1200 a month (or did 18 months ago).

What you're likely getting is a partial T1. So find out what its download/upload speeds are, etc. Also, many businesses run their phone lines through the T1 line as well--its a multi-use connection.

Here's one thing I'm SURE of:

ADSL or cable service would be a MUCH better value for what you'll pay. ADSL speeds can reach T1 speeds, and cost a 1/3 of your $200 a month.

Ya on the price you are right... problem being that only have ISDN and T1.... so I hate ISDN.. to slow considering I have cable already and from what I know it will be a few more yrs it seems before dsl comes out there... I just want to know what hardware is needed to set this up http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I can get it from the ppl at my parents work.. just curious if someone out here would know more.

Well, on the user side of things, I think all your computer needs is a NIC.

But, to be honest, I've never heard of a home being wired for T1 access before. I'm sure its been done, but most customer's don't order a 1200 Internet hook-up.

As I recall, most of the work is done on the phone company side of things, including laying the actual T1 line out to your house.

The labor on that alone may be astronomical.
