I just recently took over for someone as Assistant ADP. I have been tasked with finding out how to keep people from downloading files with the extensions .EXE and .ZIP. IF any one out there has any ideas on Scripts, or programs that we could use to curb the programs that are being installed (like Gamestorm, Battle.net, and Mplayer) I would appreciate it. I wouldn't mind those programs being installed, but this is a DoD network and it simply cannot be allowed... Thank you...

You might want to research a program called Fortress. It'll allow you to controll ALL sorts of stuff.

Another thing to consider:

Attention all employees, You are here by notified etc......

We are going to implement something like that, but I really don't think it's going to solve any problems. These people have been talked to and nothing seems to help. We are going to make them sign that they indeed see the start up screen that says that they are being monitored, so we can take action. I came in today and already found MSN gaming zone and tangier's casino on the shared machine... I think I will check out Fortress. Thanks

If these are NT boxen, just only give the users write permission in a certain directory. Then write a script to delete *.exe & *.zip in that directory every so often.

First off, sorry about multiple posting, I put it in Networking and I should have left it there... Fingers, thank you for the very nice reply. I would write a script, but I have not written a script, ever. Is it anything like batch programming? I know enough of that to be dangerous, but batch programming has gone the way of the dodo... I have looked for a "how to" on WIN NT scripts, but to no avail. If anyone has any good sites that would get me started, I would appreciate it...
