I am in the process of creating the fastest gaming PC possible (read: overclockable), what do you guys think of going for a dual CPU system vs. a single (1gHz+) system? Any mobo recomendations?? I don't know much about this hardware stuff, yet.

TIA

a dual cpu will do you no good for gamming as 99.9 % of the games will not use the second cpu it will be a wast unless you are going to set it up as a server just go get a Athlon 750 and over clock it to a gig and a good video card like the ge force 2 and you will b smokin

In order for you to take advantage of DUAL CPU, you must have an OS that supports SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processing) Such as Windows NT, WIndows 2000, Linux, etc. Win98 or Win ME does NOT support 2 processors, ONLY 1.

You have to keep in mind that most games will NOT take advantage of using 2 processors. So your game that doesn't support SMP will have no performance gains. I heard that Quake 3 supports SMP. I heard that there will be many games that will support SMP, but as of now, there aren't many on the market.

To put it simply, the software must support SMP to utilize 2 CPU's.

The only benefits you will really have is MULTI-TASKING.

To make your moneys worth, Your best bid is to get a single CPU system for your gaming pleasures.
