I have an AOL account, I've been using it waiting for my dsl line. I gave up on my other DU. A little TWERP sent me a Trojan horse yesterday. I am furious!!! I talked to him once about computers, and software careers etc. It came disguised as a picture. He has sent it 6 times, I am sure the little pill can't figure out why I'm still online. It really blew out my AOL, earthlink and a bunch more stuff, and I caught it immediately, "regular" users wouldn't I don't think. I am still having problems with the puter, but hey, F-Disk is my life! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif... So I don't care about that.
BUT I AM STEAMING!!!. I feel like pinging the daylights out of the little creep. Would I be wrong? I'd like some advise, thanks guys.

I say report his ***.
If that don't work....gimme his info...I'll come up with something GOOOD.

i'm sure you're upset, i would be too. you have to keep in mind though, he may have sent a trojan to you but you're the one that installed it ... regardless of how it's diguised. you can't be mad at someone for having your house burned down if they hand you the matches and you light the fire. and just to save you some time (and bandwidth) don't bother trying to ping someone into submission with a dialup ... chances are he won't feel a thing.
safe surfing, as general practice you may want to scan anything you get from people .... even people you know.
cheers,

I've dealt with AOL .. Not much you can do with them but GET EVEN..
Aol would only give him a warning..If they kicked his account off..all he needs to do is sign up and AOL would be more then happy to take his credit card #

Yeah Psyclone, you're right I would use my DSL and if that didn't work,,, there's always the T1 at work.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
I agree with you Mike, AOL won't do diddley.
Now, the newest event,,, I am fascinated with this virus. It won't go away. I have found it as a .exe file, a .dll, .ax (?), and with different names, and creation dates. But the size and modify dates match.
I have tried to change the extension and attributes to delete it, and I'm sure you guys know, it just reproduced! Norton Anti V. can't get rid of it. I have watched it change. Norton calls it PWSTEAL.TROJAN it disguises itself... sorry, and here I have always thought programing boring... (sorry daff). http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
What's my next move? What was the name of the Trojan fighting software socalgal uses? I'm not sure where that thread was it's been a few months...
I totally agree on reporting the twerp. Let the law search and bug the hell out of him. In the mean time you can sit and enjoy our "tax dollars" at work! If the little *$ithead wants to play let him play.

This is what you're looking for "The Cleaner" 30 day free trial. Hope it works on that one!

Be even safer and change all your passwords, surreal.. that one is a password stealer.
Better safe than sorry.. disconnect your modem connection then change your passwords after you clean it.
This one is listed in The Cleaner's DB and should get it.
If you're running ZoneAlarm, check carefully what tries to connect to the internet from your computer (outgoing). Trojans phone home.

I reccomend the Cleaner also.
Here is an article that may be of help if for some reason the cleaner can't remove it.
PWSteal.Trojan (http://service1.symantec.com/sarc/sarc.nsf/html/PWSteal.Trojan.html)
Best of luck.

YES!! that's the one I was looking for, The Cleaner. I Downloaded TDS-3 and it identified it as rat.Xmas Tree (22times) and 4times as rat.SkyDance 2.25. Also it sez Live trojan found in process memory...it's in the process memory! well I'll be. uhh,, where or what is that???? (I think I got the concept but not the mechanics.)
Well I must say it's really stinky, that this guy did this, but it's been fun too. I know that must sound so weird, but I love to learn about new things and never have time unless it's an emergency. Yee Haa! I'll let you know if I f-disk or get rid of it, oh and whether or not I f-disk the little twerp that sent it too me....

I agree with psyklone, you say he sent is disguised as a picture ?, so it must have been something like blabla.jgp.bat, you cant really blame him or be angry at him, you should be angry at yourself http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif.
Not trying to insult you!, but this honestly how i feel about it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif.
When you receive something like that it should go straight to the trash can, you should know this already.

When I said report him..I WASN'T talking about AOL. As far as I know it's STILL against the law to knowingly propagate a virus. I say report him to the computer crimes division of the FBI.
At the very least they'll send his silly *** a nasty note that should scare the bajeezus out of him.

I agree with psyklone, you say he sent is disguised as a picture ?, so it must have been something like blabla.jgp.bat, Hmm, so we talk a couple times about computers and what field you want to go into in school etc. You send me an e-mail that says " hey i finally got my pics scanned..theres like 5 or 6 of them..so just download it and unzip it....tell me what you think of my pics ok?" The attachment is a .exe compressed file. My software says its a picture. I should just toss it. Hmmm the sad thing about that is saying "I'm paranoid, I have to live this little shrunk up life, because I won't trust anyone." Sorry, I refuse to do that, I will not live my life not beleiving in the intrinsic good nature of my fellow human. You see KKF, I go though life with my heart wide open, I love people and try to reach out and connect with anyone who might need a connection. Wow I have really met some neat people too!! There are so many people out there that are lost or limping and sometimes a kind word will work wonders. My life is so much richer than it was before I realized that going through it protecting yourself in fear is not living at all.
you cant really blame him or be angry at him, you should be angry at yourself Maybe that is one of the biggest problems in society today. Sure that means it's ok to go around hurting people, or doing malicious acts. Why the hell should he be accountable it's the sucker he pounced on that is to blame. Why should he have any sense of right or wrong. I was wrong to be kind, I was the one who should have turned my back when he spoke of how unhappy he was and a failure to his parents with no direction.
KKF you have not insulted me, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif you're still on the top of my list. But I will not live my life in fear, because we all need to be able to trust and love people. It is our intrinsic nature it is the act that makes us human. I have met wonderful people because of my openness. I am not hurt by his actions, a little miffed yes. He has on the other hand with his intentional maliciousness put a small black spot on his heart. One I fear, destined to become larger. When you receive something like that it should go straight to the trash can, you should know this already. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif yeah you're probably right, but I just wont ever bring myself to do that, not in that kind of situation. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
But hey!!! do I get any points for tossing the "hot babe college girl pics" and "click this for the studley muffin pic" without looking??? (ok maybe I peeked at the stud muffin) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Don't even listen to those guys surreal. YOU'RE THE VICTIM HERE. It doesn't matter whether you were naive or not, if this guy hadn't been committing a malicious act, there would have been no problem. He caused this, not you. If it isn't YOU that opens his files, it some other poor unsuspecting person. I STILL say report this @$$hole. Here is a Webbased Crime Investigation Site:
www.web-police.org (http://www.web-police.org)
Contact them and give them this dip$h*t's info.
Screw him, hey and if he gets busted...that's not YOUR doing, that's his fault for not covering his tracks better...right KKF?

I know this is going to sound really lame. But socalgal,,, what do you mean lather and rinse?? doh! I hate admitting this, http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/redface.gif, but my knowledge is so limited if it's not something I have run into and been absorbed by.... If it catches me, I am obsessed, learning every thing I can, a bite like a Pit Bull. Otherwise I ain't got a clue. But I must say, I am fascinated by this virus and and how all of them work.... oh no another obsession... (pained facial expression) "Calvin Clone". http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm online 24/7 with 13 units online at two locations. Home I use Black Ice Defender (5 PC's). Work I use Zone Alert Pro on PC, Millenium server with 7 PC's and 1 Macintosh. Before installing firewall software the system was "Stealth configured" ( http://www.grc.com ). Surreal, I'm there man. Anything "Mission Critical" is backed up daily to Direct CD.
This is so much fun, thank you all.

I have to agree with Daffy!!
By not reporting him, you're allowwing him to continue doing things like this. And that is a dis-service to the rest of us!
It's the same as watching him shoplift at the local Wal-Mart and not saying something to the store. We all end up paying for what he took through higher prices and the price gets high when they have to install all kinds of security devices, hire Security, and maintain.

Hey I reported the guy to AOL and the net cops (daffy's link). Plus I called him on it! (slang not the phone).
Well he's still on AOL I'm sure he gave em the ole, "I can't help it my computer has the virus" song and dance, and after all, "A BUCK'S A BUCK" (now that would have been a good spot for some of that new fancy stuff yall are doin'! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif)
