I think if your Considering Microsoft obvious, you are wrong, they made Xenix. Im placing my bets on Compaq..

Id go with Red Hat...as they say in their disclaimer...'Our distributions of linux are free and in no way do we charge for our software. The prices we quote are for the packaging and materials used in creating a wrapped retails product.'

So redhat do not charge for linux, but they do charge $299 for 6 CD's and a 590 page manual. (I suppose true as you can download red hat linux for free from their site.)

IBM has AIX.
Compaq has VAX and Tru64 UNIX.
Red Hat Linux has, well, Red Hat Linux.
MS had Xenix, and NT is based on the OpenVMS kernel.

Whats the trick?

Dominus is right. Microsoft had Xenix, which was licensed and later acquired by SCO.
