Hahahaha...too funny! We have a "phrase" for people who ask silly computer questions or have funny problems and ask "What was wrong" so we tell them it was an I D ten T error. Some people think it's serious http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Not trying to be mean, but when someone asks me "How do I get my scanner at home to work?" while I'm at in the lab and when I ask "is it a USB or parallel port?" and they reply "Yes and I have a disk, but my printer only has 1 space" ?!?!?!?! (She plugged scanner into printer somehow and was trying to figure out how to connect the printer BACK to the computer) Ummm..sometimes, ya just can't help it.

a couple years ago i when i was working at kinko's i dealt with all kinds of problems. my favorite, perfectly logical mistake was a customer who dragged a shortcut to word onto their floppy. when they clicked on it at home it opened their file but our computers didn't open it right.

I also had to help a guy who was trying to get all of the documents off of his laptop and onto his new laptop. Poor shmo had copied all of the shortcuts and couldn't figure out why they didnt work. Sheesh.

Watching people hit Control, releasing it then hitting C or V when you've instructed them to hit Control C is another "I guess I could have made that mistake, but I never have" error.

Perhaps the worst I've ever seen was the customer who complained about his PC not booting up to one of our customer support techs. When instructed to check "The black cord next to the fan in the back." the customer found that the machine wasn't plugged in the whole time. Thanks for wasting 12 dollars an hour!

P.S. Now this FAQ entry was put in it 99'...but I have a question: When was the last time any of you actually SAW the message "Press ANY Key" ? I haven't seen it for a LOONG time.

I seem to remember reading that compac actually made some keyboards with an "any key". I would love to see one of those.

as far as people with minor self inflicted problems ,or that manage to screw up any cpu they touch . I refer to those problems as p.b.c.m's (problem between chair and monitor)

Also known in the pronouncable acronym:
p.e.b.k.a.c (problem exists between keyboard and chair). I just like to call them organic peripheral problems.

hehehehe - good one. I sent the link to every Compaq owner I know...

Lol Mr. Goodbytes. I've never heard 'organic peripheral problem' before. Don't forget the classic 'id10t' error. If you pronounce it 'id ten t' the id10t won't even catch it....
