Hey everyone,

A friend of mine asked me if I know anything about these error messages he is receiving when he turns his
machine on. His machine is just for his kids mostly, and he doesn’t know anything about computers and wanted to
know if these errors are caused by his kids http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif or if there is something going wrong with his machine.

I don’t know much about his system, just that it’s a Compaq. I told him it could be his kids playing where
they shouldn’t http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (No offense to our younger members! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif) and he said his oldest likes digging around in Explorer and
thinks maybe that she did something bad.

Missing or corrupted:
\tools\himem.sys
Error in Config.sys file on line 9

\Tools\emm386.exe
Error in Config.sys file on line 10

\Tools\cpqidecd.sys

Warning high memory area (HMA) is not available.
Additional low memory (below 640K) will be used instead

The following file is missing or corrupted:
Command.com

Type the name of the command interpreter
e.g., C:\Windows\Command.com

Let me know what you guys think!

John

*edit* Also, when he trys to perform the quick restore, he says it stops near the end and says"unable to finish... He wasn't sure why it wasn't able to finish. I will ask him tomorrow for more info.

Sounds like the kid deleted a folder http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif The easiest fix would be to Manually recreate the folder and then copy those missing files back to that directory. (may have to have someone with a compaq put those files on a disk for them at worst) Of course if the kid just started deleting things at random it might be easier to just format and reinstall from the quick restore disk if they really dont have anything they need to save.

Of course you come back and edit it after we chatted on ICQ http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Need to find out what that error was when he tried the restore http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
