Close call there. Apparently, there was a little piece of something in the way that prevented the heatsink from making full contact. Powered on; computer beeped twice, then started clicking. Powered off quickly, and then smelled something I never smelled before. I checked the processor, to find some red powder over part of it, not to mention that the entire processor was HOT. All I can figure is that the Arctic Silver on the core burned a bit. The CPU is still working (running it right now). Is that what the red stuff was? - singed arctic silver?
Just glad the poor thing survived.

Give your brain a rest from the tech-talk and come discuss anything else that's on your mind.

Sorry; didn't think this kind of thing was techish enough to qualify for somewhere else. If I'm in error, may the almighty mods find it in their power to find a new home for this humble thread.
