Have you thought about starting your own computer repair? How about consulting? With what you described, you may have to start your own business, but on the bright side, you probably have some customers whose machines you've already worked on. You may be able to put the word on the street that you are now on your own and available to repair. If you did real well and made a number of customers happy at the computer store, they may be willing to spread the word.
It will take hard work and you may not make much in the beginning, but with perserverance, and happy customers, you may end up with a decent living in time. Who knows, the computer store may decide it is better to hire you back then to compete or they may contract with you for their repair work.
Just some quick ideas!

Get your high school equivalent and then worry about your career.
To bad you don't live in Australia. You could head for Byron Bay or Nimbin ,go on the Dole, grow dope, dress like a lunatic and join the rest of the dole bludgers and let the rest of us work and pay taxes to keep you in the style you want, but Iam sure you being a Sysopt member you will have another job next week, good luck.skai

caddmannq was just pulling your leg! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I know where he spent time growing up and there are a lot of Swedes and Norwegians in that area! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
But I have to admit, there are quite a few Americans that believe that because that is what they have seen on TV. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

P.S. My Mother's grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Sweden in the 1890's. They were Russians who fled to Sweden and took the name Lindstrom from the farm they settled on. Just dawned on me, my Dad's grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Russia, but they were Germans. Odd coincidence isn't it?

Sky, sorry about your job.
But from a different angle, look on this as the beginning of a new career. If you had of settled into that job, you might not have achieved what your going to achieve now!!! This is the start of the rest of your life. If you fancy the working for yourself/partnership go for it. Now is the time.
You say that you have very little academic qualifications, maybe so, what you do have is experience. You cannot buy experience, it takes a lifetime to gain it.
I wish you the best of success, and look forward to looking at YOUR companies website in the future.
All the best, Justy.

I agree with Gomer, what are your chances of trying to complete a course at university or college ?.
I know its not easy, and I know that you need some sort of income during the education period (if you attempt it), but I think it would be great if you did that.
Good luck.

Great news getting your job back with a rise, now just make sure your get some MSCE's and A+ passes, so you don't have to worry about it happening again.
Skai Man don't insult the man, going to BB and becoming a ferral is for those of limited brain cells http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
BTW Skywalker aren't your lot part of the EEC yet, because if they are the whole of the EEC is a potential work area, and the UK never did worry to much about quals after Maggy T ( Iron Lady) stated she could take anyone and put them through a Government training course and change the into a skilled person in 6 months.
