Great construction, with the dimension of the thing I thought for sure there was gonna be a CPU freezer built into it... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

That's all that's missing, a campus beer box would have been a nice touch! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

That's very cool. I don't think it would be too difficult to build something similiar. Probably not that nice. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
3K is kinda steep, but a LOT of work goes into something like that!!
Rmcky brought this to my attention, since he knows I built one too.
Mine's shown here (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Software/5467/case1l.jpg), and it's NOT for sale!!!
(pictured prior to stain and assembly)
It's double-wide, 16 bay (11 ext, 5 int), dual PS. 16"W X16"D X 24"H. Whole thing built into oak cabinet with oak faceplate. Removeable side panels for access, air space between wood and metal to avoid heat problems. Mounted on casters & topped with upholstered cushion. World's most expensive footstool!
Started out as a matched pair of new mid-tower cases with damaged covers, and just went from there.
Hey, Snuffy - Thanks for posting this, and is his case still the best you've seen?? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
hehehe....

Hey, if anybody DOES want one, and has a year or so to wait for the custom work, I'll beat that 3K price!!
...But it still WON'T be cheap!!!!

Yeah, ya need some good woodworking skills and tools and there ya go http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.
Personally, I think I would rather have a more "modern" case like Drizzles. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Very nj, Ed.
Warthog
I saw Drizzle's project too, it looks good!
Thing is, for my needs (& wants) I couldn't find a case big enough. Saw a few server cubes that would do it, but they would've needed internal mods, and I just couldn't see buying a high-dollar case just to experiment!
Started out as pet project, just wanted to see how far I could go. By the time the metal chassis was complete, 5 cases had given up parts and the original two were heavily modified. Then the woodwork started. That's been another hobby of mine for years, so I've got all the tools. The faceplate was a challenge, but I'm happy with the results.
It's been fun to do!

I could easily (well, thats my skill level) create a case, such as the one that is 3K...
The materials for the case alone do not even come close to 3 grand...

Ed_S, your case has 10 drives bays?
Bloody hell! When r ya gonna use all of them?
[This message has been edited by Snuffy! (edited 08-14-2000).]
Actually, it's 16. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
9 - 5 1/4
3 - 3 1/2
4 - internal
Usage??
Dual floppies
CD-R
CD
CD Changer (4 disc)
3 HD's in removable racks
Temp monitor faceplate.
That leaves two 5 1/4's empty, plus the internals, for future expansion.
Hmmm, just had an idea...
Could put two more HD racks in just to store extra drives for quick swaps! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Doubt I'll outgrow it anytime soon, though, hehehe...

Ok very nice case, but 3K you are kidding me, actually on the subject of that case, is it me or was the absolutly nowhere to plug the moniter in????? Sorry nice looking case but it would fit in my room and it does not have the expansion abilities for my liking, I mean only 2 5 1/4 bays I already use 3 and I am only just getting started!!!
So can someone inform me has he got a wireless moniter or did he forget that minor detail????

Perhaps he is running it headless. It is possible, you know.
It is a nice case and has giving me some ideas. But 350 hrs to build it is a bit to long!
