Can someone kindly explain benchmarking and how too read a typical graph (ie what do the numbers mean and all?)

Benchmarking is a way of measuring the performance of various aspects of your computer. A good benchmarking program is Sisoft Sandra, which you can download here:

It has comparisons to other computers, so you can see how your computer matches up with the others.
