I have never installed a scanner before but here is a question;

If I try to install a scanner on an old system at work (I think it is a Pentium 133 at the most) won't there be complications with the old bus system on the mobo attempting to interact with such a new peripheral??

Nomadd, kindly supply some info such as operating system in computer, amount & type of ram (physical memory) in computer, how the scanner interfaces with the computer (parallel port vs USB, etc.), system requirements listed in scanner manual or brand/model of scanner, scanning software package . . .

Armed with this info, you'll get more responses.

Good luck.

If it's an LPT scanner, then it'll work just fine! I had a UMAX hooked up to my P100, running Win98 and I had no problems. USB shouldn't be a problem either, as long as you have the ports.

Stay away from the $39.00 scanners. Some of the cheaper models can be a pain. HP makes some that you can get for less than a hundred, I bought the 3200c for $60. Get back with the system specs and someone will assist. DrVette

I put a HP 3200, parallel port, on a P100 and a P120. Both 66mhz mobo, both Win 98, one with 32Ram the other 64. Worked great with the original 1995 bios. Put a Mustek on a P100, strugle and fight, then poor quality. Overclock that thing if you can, I dunno, . I o/c'd two p100's to 120, added a cooling fan off a amd k6-2, this kept the cpu around 88-92F. Apparent speed increase was about triple on opening icons and general programs, didn't do any winstones or dhrystone tests.. This again, with the same BIOS as when new. DrVette

Thanks to all for the responses. As far as the specs go, it really didn't matter; mission accomplished!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
