Hi,

Does anyone has that laptop with Win 2000 on it ?
If yes, are there any problems I should know before I go ahead ?

I have checked Sony's web site and donwloaded all the drivers/utilities/bios I need for Win 2000.
So, I guess I should be OK ???

Any comments greatly appreciated... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey Stan,
Sorry I can't help you with Win2k. I've never tried it on a laptop. However, my boss has given me the green light to buy whatever laptop I want. I've been thinking about a Vaio. How do you like it? I wanted something DVD capable, but lightweight. I'd also like to install Win2k, so I'll be following this thread closely.

Hi,

I like the Sony VAIO series. They are light and the design is fantastic.
The C1-XN (http://www.vaio.sony-europe.com/facts/c1xd/info.htm) is the smallest of the series. It weights 1Kg and it is called the picture book. I only use it to store my pictures, as an "electronic photo-album".

At work, we only buy Toshiba (Tecra 8100). They are very reliable. We have started installing win 2000 on the new ones (with DVD).
It seems to be a very stable combination.

Well, I installed successfully W2K.
Speed looks OK. It is not the fastest laptop, but it is faster than Win98SE.
After all, it is only a CeleronA 266 with 64MB SDRAM.

All the Sony drivers/utilities are easy to install.
One thing though: there are no drivers for the motion eye.
I don't know if Sony will be releasing any drivers soon... keep fingers crossed...

Well, I've called Sony Vaio tech support and they told me that they are not planning to release any drivers for Motion Eye.
And, there will be no Win2000 version of DVGate... grrrrrr...
