I wish you were right, ILC. It's all about FL now. And the ballots there have been majorly screwed up. Buchanan got a lot of votes from strongly Jewish/Democratic communities - it's looking like the ballots were messed up; some votes for Gore were being routed to Buchanan. That will be addressed after the recount. Curious that the state is governed by Bush's brother. Perhaps the results weren't looking to be in Bush's favor....

Nice post voogru. Looks like an easy ballot to use to me, how hard can it be to find the hole directly to the right of the arrow? If they were confused at the time, why didn't they mention it then? Now all the retired Dems are demanding to vote again so all the Nader voters can switch to Gore. Typical sour grapes... if you don't like the results demand a do-over. Whoever gets enough votes after the recount should be the winner, whether it's Bush or Gore makes no difference to me. Whoever it is is going to have a devil of a time trying to get anything done due to the gridlock that's going to occur in Washington. Actually that may be a good thing for us, if they can't get anything done maybe it will be harder for them to screw us over. Of the two of them Bush might have a better time of it just because I don't think there are a whole lot of Dems in Washington that are really happy with his poor campaign performance... especially in light of the proclaimed success of the the Clinton administration over the past eight years... you'd think he would have won going away. Hillary's crowd is probably secretly smiling, since a Gore loss opens the door for her in 2004, wouldn't that be a fun election to go through? I'm surprised at you caddman... I agree that the ballot is a poor design, but not every bad idea is a conspiracy. The ballot was designed by a woman who is a registered democrat. Jeana sited that 19,120 Florida votes were discarded due to "double punching", who can we blame for that one?

Fla. law says ballotts must be marked with an X to the right of the name. The P.B.C. ballott required a punch to the left. Gore is second in line but third punch hole. I haven't one. I have been told by a 24 year old college grad she found it confusing. later barry

I heard on the news that 3400 in Palm beach county say they voted for Buchannon by mistake. To the 19200 who punched their ballot twice: Tough Luck, pay attention next time or ask for another ballot! Just a question: are there really 3400 people that stupid and unobservant in PB county or is it possible that one person made the same mistake 3400 times filling out ballots for all these doddering old people... couldn't be a potential case of voter fraud by Democrats could it? If you validate these kinds of claims of mistake by having a new election, what's the point of voting at all, doesn't it just mean that whoever loses will make these claims and demand to vote again? Typical of our society... it's never your fault when you make a mistake, it's always someone else's fault. As soon as all the absentee ballots from the military vote is counted I'm sure Bush will gain votes, I doubt if all the long overseas deployments and nation building that Clinton/Gore have subjected our military to have endeared them to the troops in the field. If those people really meant what they were doing there in the voting booth, they would've taken the time to GET IT RIGHT. Not to mention that if they think they had messed up, they could request another ballot (up to 2 or 3 times) to GET IT RIGHT.

No wonder Buchanan doesn't want their vote... he's probably embarrased that these are the people who could be his supporters.

And to think we license these people to drive on public roads...

As much as voting is a right, it is still a privilege. If you can't read that ballot to pick out the right candidate and follow the arrow across to the corresponding hole to punch, then you shouldn't be voting. It doesn't matter who you are, how young/old you may be, what you've done, or how much money you might have.

This would be the greatest argument for vouchers I've ever seen.

I can personally tell ya that our ballots in my voting booth looked exactly like that one with names on both sides of the "punch line" and I didn't have any problems and my wife says she didn't (any she didn't vote the same way as I did either http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif ) so I personally think "to bad"... wait 4 years and make sure you do it right next time!
