Considering it since it can be had for like 270 buck but wondering if anyone has taken the plunge and bought one yet.

I believe that's the first generation DVD RAM drive. The media it creates cannot be read in regular DVD-ROM drives, players, or CD-ROM drives. 2nd generation drives, due out this year, and which we will be reviewing within a few weeks, have higher data capacity and can be read in a DVD-ROM drive. Unless of course I'm mistaken and this Creative drive is a 2nd generation.
