I installed ME and love the new Windows Media Player. Sure, it kills RC5 CPU cycles, but those colors are really cool! They fit really well with my tunes!

I now have to figure out some of the new abilities. Not too much original coming out of Redmond, but they do know what sells! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Warthog 08-11-2000, 01:33 PM Yeah really... The thing is waaaaaaaaaayyy too slow for my warp speed computing ways. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Warthog Rmcky 08-11-2000, 01:48 PM While we're on this subject, let me pick your brains a little, if I may. I installed it on my Son's system and he has a Logitech cordless keyboard with audio controls. He uses Winamp to do a lot of audio stuff and since I installed Media Player, it's the default player on his keyboard. Do any of you know how I might change this back? I haven't reinstalled Winamp over itself to test that yet and it may work, but if I can just change a setting someplace, it would be easier since both players work just fine. BTW, I agree with you guys, the new player is so much nicer than the old version. Thanks! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Rick Warthog 08-11-2000, 04:57 PM What default button did it change on the computer? CD Player? It might have something to do with Media Player taking over a file type that Winamp used to do. Mp3 or cd, I guess. Warthog Imperion1 08-11-2000, 07:57 PM Does the keyboard have a setup program to where you can reassign the buttons? Snuffy! 08-11-2000, 10:00 PM I HATE Windows Meida player 7.0, I use 6.4. Microsoft are getting worse, they made it all "good looking" with big buttons, and other annoying things, whereas 6.4 is small, simple, not garish, and works fine. Rmcky 08-12-2000, 04:23 AM I haven't had time to do much troubleshooting yet, but the Media Player just automatically assigned itself as the default player for the system. That wasn't all that bad since it will play MP3s, but Winamp was more convenient for doing some things. The keyboard software doesn't have any way to specify which player it opens, however I will try reinstalling its software if reinstalling Winamp doesn't do the trick. The keyboard softeare directory has an .ini file in it that can be edited and has the various players listed, but I don't think I want to delete the media player in its entirety from there, since the play, stop, and volume controls on the keyboard seem to control all players just fine. This is really just a minor inconvenience, since I can manually open Winamp and still have control of all it's functions from the keyboard, but if I use the open player key, I get media player. I'll work on figuring it out. Thanks for the help.:0 Rick Buji 08-12-2000, 06:19 AM Tools|Options|Formats, unchecking CD Audio Track, will stop it from being the default player. Rmcky 08-12-2000, 07:04 AM Thanks Buji, I'll give that a try, sounds like the simple solution I was looking for. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Rick Edit:Thanks again Buji, that did the trick. I had been to that screen, but it confused me in that the CD format wasn't checked. Checked it and applied, then unchecked and applied, then it worked like a champ.
