If you ever get the time and the $$ for it, I've heard the best place to dive is the Marianas and Micronesian Islands. Out of those, I've heard Palau was the best. There's also lots of war remnants throughout that area.

I'm no expert-- I was on Guam for a while, but never got past the snorkeling phase. I know quite a few divers, though, and most say that's the best area for diving.

I had my first dive this year in Hawaii. It was very exciting. I hope that i will one day be wealthy enough to consider this sport a hobby http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

took the PADI class twice while I was in college, but didnt have the cash for the actual certification and final dives. I WILL get certified one way or another soon though. It is one of my dreams to scuba in the open sea....ahhhh....

I love to dive and I like in a "land locked" state! I have my assistant instructors certification thru PADI #AI82047 One of my favorite places to dive is off of Turtle beach on the island of Maui. We have a video of when I took my wife there of us holding an octopus and swimming with a couple of small sharks near us. but of course just watching the giant sea turtles was a treat http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

MNT ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!

That is where we dove! Our instructor was really an expert, he dove (no tank) all the way down, swam through a little cave, then back up again.

Neat,

Never did the scuba thing but spent many summers off the coast of Long Island doing the snorkeling. The best was at Far Rockaway, by the rocks. 40- 50 ft of clear spear fishing (then,in the fifties and sixties) before all the polution. We'd get wet suits in the winter, build a fire( before it was banned) and spend all day fishing, and eating and , of course, a nip of the spirits now and again. Sure was fun http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

my friends scuba story - off the coast
of california:
first the bottom was just sand.
then he came to a spot with bushes and
seaweed as tall as trees. in one of the
bushes was a moray eel with big teeth.
my friend pointed a spear gun at it,
then backed away.
can the divers here pls share a scuba story with us? what did u see down there?
how long can u stay down? did you ever
try rebreather gear?

the duration underwater depends on certain things. one if you can breathe normal and not suck in alot of air. the temperature and how deep you are down.

I used to be in a dive club and we would dive off hickam afb and Waikiki Beach. i think the scarest thing i have encouter was when a shark came swimming up to us. It was my first encouter so i froze and just watched. it wasn't a big shark but still i was in his home. Evenutally it left us alone. When we dived off of Waikiki Beach we would dive near the tourist submarines. we just had to watch how close we swam in fear of the propellers. In hickam harbor there was old WWII fighter planes underwater i found some old bomb shells and bullets. Pretty neat stuff.

a funny story i got was when i was in florida for a dive i like didn't breath. it was wierd i was using a 63 cubic ft. tank and did a 45 min. dive w/ my brother and dad( they used 80 cubic ft tanks) and when we got out i had 1500psi left and they only had 500psi.
but once you get me in cold water around here my 63 lasts just as long as their 80s. soon i wanna try nitrox diving, my dream though is to become a dive instructor and retire to a dive shop in florida or sumthin.

I want to be " MASTER NAVY DIVER http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif" ( that was only funny if you saw men of honor.)

On my first dive I did exactly the opposite, I breathed like a friggin horse for 10 minutes, then my instructor noticed my gauge at 460 psi and falling! Needless to say I have gotten better- I didn't dive off Waikiki, I went over by Molikini.

well I have been lucky enough to dive on some ship wrecks in the Bahamas..One of my uncles is a partner in a Treasure hunting outfit he is in with some of the big dogs...I have never done any sport diving everything I did was off the boat, we used a hooka set up...but I have never been certified. This was back in 91..but My Dad and 2 uncles go every year.

I can't really say much about what we found, but we did find a lot of stuff. Most of it is still being worked some by National Geographic archeologists. We never found any large amounts of what most would call treasure, but we have found stuff that is just as valuable. I have held stuff in my hands that hasn't been touched since the day it sank back in the 1500s. Its some pretty cool stuff. I may get too go back to the Bahamas or possibly Panama this coming summer. I'm really looking forward to it I hope I get to go again. Although the boat life dose suck ..lol

As part of my fishing enthusiasm I started scuba diving for the purpose of spear fishing, but soon I realised that the experience was far too great to mix it with fishing.

Every year (summer months) I dive in the mediterranean (Greek coasts/islands, Tunisian coast, Sicily and Corsica). Only once in the Atlantic (Cameroon coast) and twice in the Red Sea.

Amazing!!
