I want somethin' of good res and @ decent frame rate. Something that's also easy to install would be a big plus.
Since my unc' got a new HP computer (I picked it out for him since he's computer illerate) and he's in Vegas, I thought it'd be fun to try out online video conferencing.
As for framerates and res, my guess is that it depends on how good the internet connection would be, would it not?
Also, on another note, I've heard that you can now dial long distance while you're on the net and not have to pay long distance charges...is this true? If so, where can I go to dig more info?
Thanks in advance for your help guys and gals http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

OK, I did some reviews and came up to deciding upon the Intel PC Camera Pro USB.
Only downside I see is the 3feet USB cable.
But I guess I can by a 10/15feet USB cable and lengthen it, right? That way it can also be used as an in-home digital camera with very limited travel...

the best advice ive heard was to buy digital...most of the cheap cameras are analog...digital has improved performace and clarity so make sure the one you get is digital
Hi plucky
I got the logitech quickcam pro, I like it myself, it was second one I tried, I first got creatives webcam go, but had problems with it. The logitech I got was usb style, with about a 6ft cable I guess. superb quality, good software bundle, came with a good quality mic that attaches to Biff's head, It was a easy install (had it going in 15min) Software package I thought was great I think it was worth it! - check it out

Well, if you buy anything, DON'T, I repeat, DON'T buy the Plustek Opticam 300U, thats what I have got, and it is a piece of rubbish.

Good choice plucky.......but don't worry about the cable. It's 3 meters long (just under 10ft), not 3 feet. Good camera, does'nt need floodlights to work, great stills, decent video, and a good software package that works. You can plug your VCR or camcorder into the back of it , as well, to import video.

Plucky,
Get the newest webcam from Creative.
You won't need to have a long USB cord to take videos or pictures - it's portable!!
