For years I waited up on Sunday nights for X-Files to come on. I loved to watch Scully and Mulder in their circle of trouble, and thought I would be enjoying the show my entire life.
Recently, X-Files completely dropped off the charts. Fox is making a desperate effort to keep the show in viewers minds (referencing to the TV Guide promotion) but it just doesn't have the viewer stronghold it once did. This realization hit me hard. I am a person who is not shy...but not outrageous, and have come to enjoy being by myself. I know love to run, becuase I can do that by myself, and of course computing, that sets me apart from all other students at my school. X-Files, The internet, and my bike, were my life.
Now I have lost X-Files, and feel sickened by the fact that I am actually loosing sleep. I have been noticing a gradual depletion of quality in the show for some time, right at the end of the 6th season. The relationship between Scully and Mulder has gone the wrong direction, chris carter was trying to appeal to the less intelligent of the viewer base, so he had to incorporate love, and kissing into the show, which is not what x-files is about.
The rare appearance of an actual alien is what made x-files so successful. People would watch Mulders life unfold, see him discover a secret, and when he was approached by the smoking man, you just KNEW the next few episodes would be good.
The newer shows are infested with aliens, taking away the excitement and intensity of the situation.
I guess now my only option is to revert to FX and watch the repeats (that I have seen over and over) of the show until something else comes out.
Does anyone else think the quality of series-based television has greatly depleted? With FOX dropping "Worlds Scariest" and ABC showing just about anything it gets from the production companies, there is little that holds the interest of a technically oriented individual. That new internet movie looks promising, I can't wait to find the mistakes, hehe.
Your comments are welcome.

Does anyone else think X-Files was the best show on TV?

I have always enjoyed it. "The wife" (for socal) is a big fan so I watch it with her. I don't think the show has gotten that much worse.
I think losing Mulder for a few months will stink. I think it is immature of him to hold out for more money. I'll continue to watch it because there isn't anything close to it.

I'm an X-Phile! I watch it religiously! Too bad this season might be the last http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif Same with Star Trek: Voyager, the only Star Trek series I like and it's done after this season too :/ As long as The Simpsons stay on, I'll be watchin' TV! There are a few other shows I watch too...Home Improvement is always good, I watch Dark Angel and Charmed once in awhile...heck, I even watch Pokemon, Batman Beyond and my new favourite, Popular Mechanics for Kids!

I love sunday night on FOX. First the simpson than it was King of the hill and then the X-files. That Millenium show was pretty good to.
What we need is some hot alien sex on the show or at least scully needs to show some skin. It has dragged out, I mean mulder and scully should have hooked up by now.
I was wondering why mulder wasn't going to be there for the first half of the season. I didn't realize that he was holding out for more money. That Robert Patrick guy is pretty cool though but I'll be mad if they kill off the cancer man he's the best character on the show.

Sounds like it's past TJ's bedtime. Better get on your jammies little one and get some rest. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
I didn't get into X-Files til it had been on a couple of seasons. But I agree if the show goes down it'll probably be over money. Too bad. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

X-Files was the best. I thought that it started to drag out about two years ago but it was probably just me.
The only TV shows that I care about are the Flyers and Eagles games. Since I live in Michigan, I don't watch too much TV.

Since I turned Techno-Head bout 3 yrs ago, my TV is only on for ....
X-Files and other quality shows.
On the love part, I think Scully ought to have snuck into Mulders room on a seldom basis and DENY ever doing it if and when he mentioned it..
This would make the already-paranoid Mulder wonder if it really happened or if he dreamed it.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

As for Scully and Mulder together, anyone remember "moonlighting"?

I too loved X-Files.... I have always kept in mind though that this would eventually happen (the degradation of plot lines...) It happens all the time. That's why I've always been a big Monty Python fan, no plot - nothin' to screw up! Here's an old addage to keep things in perspective.. "Do you know why they call TV a medium? 'Cause nothing on it is ever well done."
I was into X-Files from the start and am just glad it's still on. Like David Duchovny, I am glad it was recognized as a great dramatic series, not just pigeonholed into SciFi.
Another series began about the same time, called American Gothic. It only lasted one season.
Back to X-Files... the sexual tension seems to have evaporated between Scully & Mulder, but it should not go beyond tension. That's just one of the "ticklers" that keeps people tuning in.
I can see Duchovny's position, regrettably... Every actor aspires to be flexible and have a shot at many roles. He feels typecast as Mulder, so he's not just milking the series for all the $$$ he can, he is also trying to distance himself from it.
The bio information had him as an English professor before X-Files. Can you imagine trying to conduct a class of Mulder fans?
Let's hope Chris Carter has more in mind beyond Millenium.

Yes I also did this research. I even contacted his PR manager who gave me all kinds of nifty X-Files stuff!
there was an audition for some crazy movie on campus, and "Mulder" was just walking down the line looking for a student and a scout stopped him, and the rest is history :-)

American Gothic was cool, as was Dark Skies. Both cancelled after one season http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Yup, U-96, they cancel shows w/alittle thought put in them, and all the other thoughtless junk continues. I guess 'cause that junk doesn't cost anything to produce.

I used to watch X-files all the time. About 3 years ago the show plots were getting boring. same thing over and over and over. Don't get me wrong they had to some good once in there every once in a while.

I love x-files, but I'll tell you another show that someone mentioned earlier that I also thought was kick-4$$... The Outer Limits... that show was cool too.

X-files was good for a while, but it got old, 30 minutes of TV a week is more than enough! Wednesday, 9:30 PM Central "BATTLE BOTS!" http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif That's the only think I watch on the tube!
