I'm planning on installing my second Harddrive and read an article concerning available power. Presently I have a 235 Watt
PS. I have the computer loaded, with just one serial port open and that's going to have my evternal modem when it gets here. Have CDROM, CDRW, webcam and zipdrive. I'd rather have more than not enough. Any advice and suggestions for replacement appreciated. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks

Yeah, i'd would definitely get a new one, if you wanna be safe, get yerself a 300w, but a 250w will also do fine, if you don't want to spend too much.

pickel,
This might not be a time to be cheap!!
Go for a 400W (the price difference isn't that great between 300 and 400 Watts), because I know if you're anything like me you're going to add that new power hungry widget that will be available in the fall to your 'puter! Just as a note, I've upgraded all my PSUs to 400W...they dissipate less power cause their working lower on their operating curves and they will be more reliable.
Just a thought...

400watt?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
For a home user?!?!?!?!
Thats just a tad bit of overkill there!
The only comps i've seen with 400w are server computers.
A 300w will be PLENTY, and he'll still have enough wattage to add heaps more stuff, and still not be anywhere near trouble.
I've got a 250 watt, and i've got fans galore connected, 2 cd drives, 2 hd's, geforce, extra m/b fans, and it hums along perfectly.

I'm pretty conservative and have fairly loaded systms...usually one empty PCI slot, so that's why I opt for the 400 Watt PSU.
I always recommend a derated PSU to others so that they won't have a chance of "living on the edge". A fair number of system instabilities and reboots can be traced to a PSU (even an adequate PSU) that goes transiently into overcurrent.
And you generally get piece-of-mind from the 400W unit for a relatively small price differential.

Snuffy---some of us use multiple Peltiers, water cooling or a combo of the 2 PLUS the overhead is neccessary at times especially with all the other **** we hook up, or will in the future...although this isnt Pickels situation right now http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
http://ocz.safeshopper.com/38/cat38.htm?938 has a 400 Sparkle for
129$

There are quite a few online companies out there that sells powersupplies. But I found a 400watt power supply for around $100 at antec-inc.com
That just happens to be the least expensive that I have found yet.

yeah, maybe, but pickel doesn't have any peltiers, so buyning a 400w would be a SUUUUUUUUUUUUPER waste of money.
But knowing Pickel, there's just no telling WHAT might go in there next. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
300 would do it, though, I'd bet.
I ran a 235 for a couple of years until I finally fried the poor thing. By then I was running 3 HD's, CD, CD changer, CD-R, extra fans, etc. When I added that last CD drive, it screamed & died.
Have since cooked two 250's, currently using a 300 for about 6 months now. All OK so far.
If & when I finally move it to it's new case, it'll have TWIN 300's. How's that for overkill?? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Pickel, ol' buddy, get the biggest & best you can find if you replace it!!

Remember to watch out for noise.... The 400's can cause alot of noise.
