Hi, a friend of mine participates in a test very similar to an IQ-Test or an SAT.
I helped him a little bit with the preperations but there were some questions even I could not answer correctly:

Fill in the missing number:
451 (221) 212
265 (...) 101

and:
95 (46) 43
76 (..) 41

one similar to those I could figure out:
56 (14) 8
63 (..) 9
The missing number should be 7.
(because 8x7=56 and 70-56=14
and ... 9x7=63 and 70-63= 7)

Here you should fill in the next number in the row:
8 12 24 60 ?
(I'm guessing it should be 168:
at first you add 4 then 12(=3x4) then 36(3x12) so the next logic number to be added would be 108(3x36))

and
3 8 6 6 9 ? 12
(I have no clue at all)

I hope one of you can solve this "problem".

But why is it 4?
I still don't see the logic.

1. 265(221)101
this is cause ur solving for the spot in the middle and the eqn. is:
101+x+2*|x-101|=265 ---> x=221

2. 76(35)41
this is cause ur solving for the spot in the middle and the eqn. is:
2x+|x-41|=76 ---> x=35

3. are you sure the answer is right to 63(7)9?... I think it might be 15 because I think that the formula is 63=9(x-9)+9 ---> x=15

4. I think that ur right about this sequence because the formula is:
3n-12 ---> when n=60, the next number is 168

5. I think that barry is right about the last one... i think that it is just 2 series that are overlapped. the first being 3,6,9,12 and the second being 8,6,4.

If you ever find out the actual answers to these... please let me know, 'cause i wanna know what they are!

hope this helps

It was his homework. I think he will have it back tomorrow. I will tell you as soon as I know.
Thnks again for the help. Those had me really puzzled.

I still didn't hear from him but I found another answer to one of those problems:
95 ( 46) 43
76 ( .. ) 41

95 + 43 = 138
138 / 3 = 46
=>
76 + 41 = 117
117 / 3 = 39

Sorry, I all forgot about it!
But thanks those were the right answers!!
There was only a small mistake in the first answer: x=122 (not 221)
Also you could leave out those | they aren't really necessary.
But thanks a lot!

BTW: The answer I posted later on is the same as yours (You only wrote it different)
