After I read that nifty cable rounding guide on the sysopt.com I decided to give it a shot. I hate how my cables are always in the way. Six pairs of IDE cables later I realised that I was having a serious problem. With fourty wires to serperate, I never seemed to get away without slicing right through one or two. Eventually I decided to see what would happen if I just used my wire cutters. MUCH BETTER! If you are gonna round yer cables USE good ole fashioned wirecutters. Just fold the cable in half and put the blade in the grove between the first two wires, then flip it over to make sure the other blade is in the correct groove..then snip and repeat...I've been able to do several cables this way without slicing a wire. I snip about four grooves then seperate the wires, then snip four more..and so on. Just my two cents

I use a razor blade and make a cut about 1/2" long. Then just peel.

I just twist mine without cutting them. How much smaller are they when you cut them instead of twisting them?

Ive been screwing around with these too for my clearcase, (still not happy with the results) ive found an easier way and the risk of damage is lessened, by allowing the cable (floppy or ide) to just sit in the sun awhile so its real pliable, then fold it lengthwise 3 or 4 times and wrap it with ¼" clear wire spiral, comes out tight and smooth about the diameter of a pencil and is still flexible... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
